Revellers from last year’s Melbourne Cup celebrations at Thoroughbred Park were praised for their good behaviour with ACT Policing hoping for another well behaved turnout this year.
ACT Policing will have a high-visibility presence at Thoroughbred Park and around the venue and a strong presence in and around Civic and other licensed venues as patrons continue their celebrations.
Targeted and random breath testing will be conducted across Canberra.
Operational Commander Sergeant Steve Hogarth is encouraging people to have a good time, but not at the expense of others.
“We are not the anti-fun police. We want the Canberra public to go out and have a great day on Melbourne Cup. All we ask is that if you drink, then drink responsibly, plan ahead, organise a lift home and be aware of how your behaviour may impact on others,” he said.
“The majority of revellers are well behaved, it is the small minority who tend to ruin it for others,” Sergeant Hogarth said.
There will be ACTION buses running from Thoroughbred Park to Civic between 4 and 7 pm.
