Yachte informs that if you’ve got an inclination to give sailing a go this Sunday is a good time to get a taste.

“This will be the first time all ACT clubs have combined to jointly promote sailing as sport and recreation for all ages. The event is organised by the sport’s local governing body, Yachting ACT (YACT), and supported by the Boating Industry Association of NSW and the Sailing Industry Association of NSW.

YACT President Reg Smyth said the event would be “an ideal way for non-sailors to discover the wide range of sailing activities in Canberra and the types of craft that can suit most budgets and interests.””

More details from Yachting ACT

(Trivia point: The word “yacht” comes from the Dutch word for “hunter”)

Unfortunately, the try sailing day was rather less energetic – becalmed actually. The boats actually went faster when you paddled just one hand along the side…

But my 8yo had fun, and managed to fall in while trying to splash me! And I did the spinnaker hoist in 5 seconds flat.

Ahhh I remember racing along the lake on a catamaran, one hull up in the air as part of our enrichment activities at school.
