The ABC brings word that Lake Tuggeranong and a nearby oval have been closed after a sewage spill.

The Environment Protection Authority was alerted to the spill at the Kambah District Playing Field on Tuesday night.

Spokesman Daniel Walters says there is no evidence the sewage reached the lake but testing is taking place.

“This is a minor spill and the closure has been done as a matter of precaution,” he said.

The field is expected to be open again by the weekend.

Considering the lake was created by damming the output of a former sewerage treatment works, its hardly surprising that the place is a bit dirty.

As for swimming in that water, I dont even like touching fish with my bare hands that has come out of that lake.

On top of that the lake is there as an integral part of the stormwater network, just like the other little ponds around the place. So of course it is going to have issues from time to time with water quality. It wasn’t built for recreation per se.

The best thing about this is the fact that the spill is on oval number two!

Haha.

The condition of the lake is that of sewerage anyway. The bright green and brown scum floating on the top few inches of water is sooooo attractive, can’t wait to swim down there with the kids next summer (just like I saw degenerate junkies with their kids swimming their last summer)!
