Tuggeranong youths brought to heel?

The Canberra Times reports that arrests have been made against the young Tuggeranites accused of roaming the streets looking for other young people to assault and rob.

“Three youths were arrested after an incident in Calwell on Friday night when a 16-year-old was allegedly punched repeatedly in the head as attackers tried to take his wallet and phone.

The result came as police stepped up their campaign to stop a series of violent attacks.”

Fascinating that the CT was taken along for the ride.

Yeah it’s all good they’ve heard about it and these people are being charged.
But still bet they only get a slap on the wrist in court, at least it still goes to their record=]

Yes, but as a juvenile offender that record get sealed for the most part at the age of 18. Infact, unless there is more than 30 months of jail time, the spent convictions scheme will ensure that it won’t even stop them going for high security roles within the PS within 5 years.

I would be willing to bet that been arrested and charged will be all the punishment they will receive, at most they will have to do a few hours of community service.

the kids know the system already and know they’ll get away with a slap on the wrist – they just don’t care – that’s the scary thing.

Friday night me and a few friends were bashed by a gang in the lanyon area, for some really stupid reason…………

……………It’s just all about fighting these days, had enough!

The local police would be interested in hearing from you. If you have really had enough then its time to do something about it.

and also the Magistrates Court is way too leniant to these kids these days.
A friend of mine was in a car accident down in lanyon, the driver was drunk and stoned, 15years old and they almost got blown up by the power box that he drove over….and he didnt even get let off with a fine because he told the judge about his hard life! What are they gonna do wait until he kills somone?

Friday night me and a few friends were bashed by a gang in the lanyon area, for some really stupid reason. This incident must have been not long after that as they all headed back that way…wouldn’t surprise me if it was the same group.
and I agree I WANT TO MOVE!!

Lets hope the courts turn around and “place these thugs in a place where big men with faces only a mother could love, will pay an lot of attention to them physically”

Yeah, because prison rape would certainly rehabilitate them and not increase their tendency towards violence.

Punishment, good, but advocating that sort off thing, not so smart.

Um, this was a warning given recently by a judge to a young offender thus the use of quotation marks. I personally believe that a minimal punishment will be given, if any punishment is given at all.

My views simply reflect the view of the more general public that the courts are too interested in offenders rights that they forget the victems rights.

Oh good grief – not another one watching too much Lockup and Shawshank Redemption! These petty f**kwits are hardly the likes to be doing hard time in with the general population. How many times do we have to go through this.

Do you HONESTLY think dudes doing a couple of years time are going to turn to raping each other. If they were in for life with the general pop, then maybe…and thats a MAYBE.

Small world…small mind! Get out a little more RuffnReady!

> therbye making the Canberra times hacks get off their fat asses

They were getting to/from stories on overweight donkeys???

I hope the victim gets restitution.

I doubt it though.

Just a smack on the wrist I’ll bet!

I wish they’d pick on someone who’d pick back… That’s a great way to learn.

They should appoint social workers or case managers to their families, impose curfews and monitor them until they are of legal age then when they make that cruial mistake said appointed worker warned them about they would have no excuse and be punished as an adult to the full extent of the law.

But really I’m just ranting I have no idea how to fix this, the same way adults never knew how to fix my generation.

Although, sometimes a good scare from the cops at the right age will do the trick.

“Or scanning police radio & being quick to react more likely”.

No – the police radio system went digital years ago therbye making the Canberra times hacks get off their fat asses and seek out stories rather than sit around listening to their scanners all day.

I suggest that the Times Jack Waterford-led anti police campaign began around the same time.

Will the kiddies Court drop the ball? Will the victims be told the result and be satisfied?

Lets wait and see…

I somewhat doubt it, I expect they will be told they are very naughty, and don’t do it again.

Good to see these little scum being busted, although sounds like they are just a small part of a wider group. Pity the ACT judicial system will simply give them some milk & cookies & send them home with a (not so) stern warning.
