So we’re doubly excited that our brave lads have turned around their bad start to the season with a win over the Monaro Panthers.

Loop Premier League
Round 5Cooma Tigers have emerged as league leaders after Round 5 of the loop Premier League after a 2-0 defeat of Woden Valley at Woden Park on Sunday afternoon. Stephen Domenici was the goal hero with a double, one in each half, with the second coming from the penalty spot. The Tigers played for most of the game with ten players after leading scorer Alex Oloriegbe was dismissed for violent contact after appearing to elbow Woden Valley defender Ben Pagett. Woden though could not break down the ten men who held on for victory and moved top for the first time this season.
League leaders heading into the weekend Belconnen United were held to a 1-1 draw at McKellar Park by Canberra City as the unpredictable nature of the loop Premier League continued. The match was soured though by the broke leg sustained by City striker Brad Sawyer who was collected in a challenge by Blue Devils goalkeeper Rowan Shepherd who escaped with only a yellow card. City, who was looking to bounce back from their hammering by Tuggeranong last weekend, took the lead when Sam McDonald put the visitors in front in the 25th minute. Belconnen though were probably worthy of a point and Matt Valeri brought them on level terms with twenty minutes remaining. It was City who almost snatched it at the death though when defender David Dexter stole in and was unlucky not to convert what would have been the match-winner.
Canberra FC are third on the league table thanks to a double from Michael Spaleta that saw them to a 2-1 win over Canberra Olympic at Deakin Stadium. The Deakin based club took the lead in the 20th minute when Spaleta converted and that was how the score line remained until the final twelve minutes. When Oliver Wiederkehr struck back for Olympic it appeared as if the points would be shared but barely two minutes later Canberra FC won it when Ivan Pavlak embarked on a seventy metre run that culminated in a perfect cross that Spaleta punished with a bullet header.
Tuggeranong United meanwhile won their second match in succession as they saw off bottom club Monaro Panthers 3-1 at the Riverside Stadium. Sam Griffiths broke the deadlock after a goal-less first half with a stunning strike from range but the Panthers hot back when Paul Ivanic headed home his first goal for the club from close range. United hit back straight away with Mark Shields restoring their lead and Shields added his fourth of the season when he made the points safe in stoppage time.
