similarly, if we must have bloody halloween, why isn’t it in may in the southern hemisphere, being as it is a festival for when the fields are fallow, the crops are in and the ghosts of the dead are abroad in sombre, cool restful time..?

That has always annoyed me. If it’s about us being in the southern hemisphere then Jun 25. For orthodox Jul 7 I guess. Else it’s just a free-for-all. I’m a small, petty man.

Isn’t the middle of winter in July? I thought these events went for the bleakest time, to give that really miserable English atmosphere, where even a plum pudding seems good.

A truffle would be a nice thing for Christmas in July. Even in a humble vegetarian omelette.

?

I don’t eat turkeys – or any other animals.

…but I does love me some moral superiority…

Where does this Christmas in July come from?
Is it aimed at ex-pats who are used to having a cold Christmas, or something “cooked” up by poultry farmers?

And why isn’t it in June?

For those of us who still enjoy a nice bit of meat but want the animal to be treated well and killed with as little stress as possible.

so you are saying that all turkeys are raised in that kind of an environment or only the ones you like to eat?

I don’t eat turkeys – or any other animals. But this is from the report downloaded from http://bigbirdsbigcruelty.org/Campaign-materials.htm “In developed countries, more than 90% of commercial turkey production takes place in intensive production systems called factory farms. Turkeys raised in factory farms spend their entire lives (a grand total of three months) in crowded sheds with thousands of other birds”.

I’ve heard you can get a good gobble in Fyshwick or Mitchell.

So, if you want spatchcock, or even quail, do you go to the ACT Assembly?
