Two thirteen-year-old boys, one of whom was on bail, will face the ACT Children’s Court this morning (4 December), charged in relation to a burglary in Rivett and subsequent driving offences.

At about 2:10 am, police observed a silver-coloured Ford Focus being driven erratically in Alinga Street in Canberra City. The car was driven into the Civic Bus Interchange where police directed the driver to stop. The driver failed to do so and drove away at speed through a red light.

At about 2:20 am, after the vehicle had been observed travelling at 150 km/h in a 90 km/h zone, the driver again failed to stop when directed. A short time later, police were able to stop the vehicle and apprehended the occupants.

Enquiries revealed the car had been stolen from a residence in Rivett earlier in the night, and the owner was unaware it had been stolen.

Both boys will appear in the ACT Children’s Court this morning.

Let them go because they are under 14 and don’t know what they’re doing.

Put them in AMC indefinitely for counselling.

Even the 14yo who was already on bail for similar offences; and who the magistrate had warned at that time about any similar behaviour in the future would see him remanded in custody? Get real!
