Police say multiple fines were issued and two men charged when an outlaw motorcycle gang recently visited Canberra.

The Hells Angels visited Canberra between 30 January and 2 February for their national run within the ACT. During their visit, NSW State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad and ACT Policing carried out a joint operation.

Commander of State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad, Detective Acting Superintendent Virginia Gorman, said outlaw motorcycle gangs should expect police scrutiny.

“Outlaw motorcycle gangs and their associates should know that they cannot gather in large numbers for a national run without attracting the attention of the Raptor Squad,” Det A/Supt Gorman said.

In the joint operation, officers issued 50 traffic fines, seized knuckle dusters and charged two men.

At about 7:30 am on 30 January, Raptor Squad officers carried out two Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO) compliance checks at homes in Goulburn and Queanbeyan.

During a search of the Goulburn home, police allege they located two knuckle dusters, a lock picking kit, and small quantities of white powder and green matter they believe to be prohibited drugs.

Investigations are ongoing in relation to those seized items.

On 31 January, Raptor Squad officers also established two Vehicle Checkpoints (VCPs): one on the Barton Highway at Murrumbateman and another on the Federal Highway at Sutton.

Officers stopped and checked approximately 40 members on motorcycles and four support vehicles, the spokesperson said.

On 1 February, Raptor Squad continued monitoring the rider’s activities and assisted ACT Policing with a VCP in Narrabundah.

In total, Raptor Squad officers conducted 35 person searches and 18 vehicle searches, identified 23 alleged vehicle defects and issued 50 traffic infringement notices.

A 36-year-old man was charged with possessing prohibited drugs, while a 43-year-old man was charged over allegedly driving without a license.

Both were issued with Court Attendance Notices (CANs) to appear in Queanbeyan Local Court on 17 March 2025.

A 30-year-old man was spoken to in relation to the discovery of a knife, with police saying further inquiries will be conducted.
