Two men involved in bikie-related shooting to face court after Taskforce Nemesis seize guns and drugs during raid

Two men will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning with a combined 10 charges following a bikie-related shooting and arson attack in June and a Taskforce Nemesis operation in Calwell on Monday night (6 August).

A 36-year-old Calwell man and a 21-year-old Crace man were arrested as a result of a targetted operation which stemmed from an ongoing investigation into a gang-related incident in Calwell two months ago where shots were fired at two houses and three cars were set alight.

On Monday night, ACT Policing seizing a loaded .357 calibre Ruger revolver in a vehicle and a loaded 22/250 Ruger bolt action rifle, a shortened Marlin 9mm semi-automatic rifle and a magazine containing .45 calibre pistol rounds in a Calwell house. Police also seized a quantity of methamphetamine and a substance suspected to be MDMA.

The men will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (7 August) charged with unlawful possession of prohibited firearms (two counts), unauthorised possession of a firearm (two counts), fail to correctly store firearm (three counts), possess ammunition (two counts) and possess a prohibited weapon (one count). Police will oppose bail.

Detective Station Sergeant Harry Hains said the operation is the latest in a series conducted by Taskforce Nemesis with the aim of disrupting criminal gang activity.

“The weapons seized by police today are three fewer weapons that can be used to commit violent offences,” Detective Station Sergeant Hains said.

“If you have any information regarding illegal firearms, police want to hear from you.”
