report cover

Our Glorious Leader is celebrating reaching the mid-point of his third Legislative Assembly as the lord of all he surveys.

“At the half-way point of this term, the Territory is in great shape. The Government has protected jobs through the worst downturn to hit the world since the Great Depression – and has presided over the creation of new jobs. Business and community confidence is high. The ACT economy is in terrific form and is among the strongest in the world.

“The ACT’s solid Triple A credit rating is testament to the success of the Government’s prudent fiscal approach – but also its compassionate social conscience.

The report detailing exactly how awesome the ACT Government is can be found online

and while I’m at it…

do you really think the government is so amazingly efficient in its spending that it couldn’t save money and eventually achieve a net income?

It is what your superannuation is trying to do.

Dear verbalkint

If you don’t understand the power of compounding interest, nor read my statement saying “by one set of calculations” then please don’t comment anymore.

The ACT essentially receives approx $3billion in revenue every year. $1 billion of this is tax revenue taken from every 330,000 residents. Over 20 years if the government had saved 1/3 of this revenue instead of spending spending spending it would now be making enough at a reasonable rate of return to fully fund the $1 billion of tax revenue and could have abolished taxes.

Big numbers and percentages work extremely well, ask a credit card company, or your bank. If you’d like to continue I’ll pump out a spreadsheet for you to demonstrate. But yes for 15 years expenditure would need to be cut by a third but think of the possibility.

Politician “People we are going to cut expenditure by 1/3 for 15 years of your life, you won’t even notice after a few years and then in 15 years you will be entirely tax free, forever…”

Why not? Think outside the box.

PS Wait i just did the maths and $20 billion saved at 7% per annum is $1.4 billion a year in interest so we would be making money each year, and tax free.

Stanhopeless has been tightening the straps over the last decade. From his idiotic and poorly disguised “road safety” efforts (read: revenue raising through speed cameras), the increases to parking fines, the constant lowering of speed limits in areas where it’s clearly not necessary, etc, to the banning on fireworks on the Queen’s Birthday weekend, and the legislations relating to liquor licensing and licensed venues. This territory is becoming more and more rigid as the government tries to babysit us and dictate what’s good for us. Non-compliance is met with fine after fine, while the real problems in the ACT remain unchanged. The Stanhope government is not a government of representation. They aren’t interested in giving the people what they want/need. They are more interested in telling us what we want. Perhaps calling it a “police state” wasn’t entirely accurate, but it’s certainly beginning to show some of the same characteristics.

I don’t blame Stanhopeless entirely for it, though. I blame the people who voted for him after he’d already served a full term that demonstrated his total incompetence.

JS at his delusional best again, I would have no problem with JS living in delusion land if I did not have to pay for it and listen to it.

Can anyone explain how it is possible to talk about the “ACT economy” it is so tightly integrated into the Australian economy that JS chortling about it is meaningless. Can a circumstance exist where the ACT economy did really well during a GFC and the Australian economy crashed or visa versa?

How was the so called “ACT economy” able to prosper for 70 years before self government?

It is akin to JS’s international marketing junkets, what is their impact on the ACT economy? (and what is it he is trying to sell?).

I have tried to ask Andrew Leigh (and his predecessor) these questions but they wont comment on ACT government issues.

So much for the economy, now to compassion.

Yes Mr. Mully, you have committed 12 or so offences and you have refused to stop for police instead taking to cycle way but we will show you compassion, JS says we will so you go back into the community and be good. Mully did not show compassion to the family of 3.

So economic and compassionate miracles in the last 2 years?

Can we have an enquiry into self government please someone, mainly to reduce its death toll.

“…the Territory is in great shape”

Yeah… if by “great shape” you mean inching closer to a police state.

How do you figure that? It’s more of a bicycle/art state.

If you think it’s a Police state your clearly a fool who has no idea what is going on in Canberra!

One of his Holiness’ greatest moments in ACT politics!

…and so hot on the heels of rescuing the chopper pilot too; oh, for those Halcyon days of Stanhopefullness, when he could seemingly do no wrong… how I miss them (I’ll bet he does too).

“Any significance to the sunset picture I wonder?”

Weston Creek and West Belconnen burning in February 2003?

One of his Holiness’ greatest moments in ACT politics!

AAA Credit Rating…

I believe all those wonderful housing loans parcelled up and sold around the financial world which caused the global financial crisis were also AAA rated… I wouldn’t be holding up a credit rating as a reliable indicator of financial stability.

By one set of calculations the ACT government could have by now saved enough and invested enough to be an essentially tax free territory right now today in history freeing up over $1 billion for actual people to spend on their lives. Instead we have more taxes, more spending and more capital projects than ever before which of course only leads to more taxes, more spending… oh wait you get the picture.

Congratulations it’s so easy spending other people’s money (taxpayers) isn’t it?

So true!!

AAA!!! At least you had to sign an income declaration to buy a house before the GFC…

With the Governments Land Rent Scheme you can be unemployed and still qualify for a $400,000 block of land next to a 100,000t asbestos dump…

AAA!!! I will love to see that stick when the Scheme grows to billions and the property market takes a dive because of the flood of land..

People will stop buying and LDA will fold because of all the incompetencies, leaving a big hole for infrastructure and jobs..

And the best part is that ACT Revenue and the taxpayer underwrites it all the risk…

Who’s idea was Land Rent???

Stanhope isn’t even the Master of His Own Domain, let alone lord of all he surveys.

“compassionate social conscience”

BWAH HA HA!!!

its compassionate social conscience?? Still waiting to see that one.

Any significance to the sunset picture I wonder?

By one set of calculations the ACT government could have by now saved enough and invested enough to be an essentially tax free territory right now today in history freeing up over $1 billion for actual people to spend on their lives.

This statement simply isn’t true, how would anyone think that in the space of 20 years, the ACT government could have saved enough money such that the investment of that money would have removed all need for them to levy any taxes. All this while still providing schools, hospitals, roads, police – not to mention the rest of the public service?

What a ridiculous statement!

I believe all those wonderful housing loans parcelled up and sold around the financial world which caused the global financial crisis were also AAA rated… I wouldn’t be holding up a credit rating as a reliable indicator of financial stability.

Maybe for his Chiefliness. Not for my bank statement. Cost of living has gone batsh*t insane in the last 10 years.

I want to move back to the ACT before the next election just so I can vote against Labor.

“…the Territory is in great shape”

Yeah… if by “great shape” you mean inching closer to a police state.
