The Canberra Times reports on plans by the University of Canberra to pick up and extra 6,000 students (one wonders where they will sleep) and become and “Omniversity”.
An extra 6000 students and another $100 million in annual turnover at the University of Canberra will be part of an ambitious overhaul to turn it into an all-encompassing ”omniversity”.
The plan to turn the University of Canberra into a world-class institution educating people from the cradle to old age was outlined yesterday…”Beyond 2018 it should be in the top half of Australian universities.”
The plan’s biggest proposal is to develop a polytechnic institute similar to the successful California Polytechnic State University and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
The polytechnic would cater for people who do not get into university directly, according to Professor Parker. It would educate people in the hands-on skills needed in emerging industries across the world.
Sounds eerily reminiscent of the old CCAE no?
