The Canberra Times has details of the University of Canberra’s big plans for a $100 million building spree.
- They include $55.5 million for a new Knowledge Commons for staff and students, $31.9 million for the Peter Cullen Centre for Environmental Solutions and $9.4 million for a National Applied Science Training Institute in collaboration with the Australian National University College.
But what the hell is a “knowledge commons” I hear you cry?
It sounds like an expansion of the library.

- With the $50 million second stage of the John Curtin School of Medical Research completed last month, funding is now being sought for the final works. ”We have around $180million worth of building presently planned, and we have the cash for $120 million of that, so we’re going back to the Federal Government for the additional [funds],” Professor Chubb said.
The next most expensive project on campus will be the $150 million science precinct revamp, with stage one due for completion in June 2011. The two new three-storey buildings will create new centres for the teaching and research of biology and chemistry.
