UFO over Canberra?

The DBKP website is very excited by video purportedly shot over Canberra yesterday of what looks like a blimp overhauling a jet airliner.

It’s been posted to YouTube with this note:

An unidentified flying object was caught on camera from an airplane near Canberra, Australia on April 04, 2012, filmed by passenger Thomas Roth. The UFO was flying very fast below the Aircraft. It doesn’t look like a normal plane or helicopter. What do you think about it?

No. Regardless of what regulations may exist, I know for sure that Qantas tell you that your mobile must be switched to ‘Flight Mode’ (no 3G or wireless) if it’s to be turned on during the flight. I’m sure plenty of people don’t bother, but the airlines definitely don’t stop at a simple ‘you can turn it on except during takeoff or landing’ rule.

It’s a good thing that airlines don’t offer wifi services then. Oh wait…

+1…

Hell, I might be going out on a limb here, but +Caberra!

Same UFO, now chasing KLM planes:

Same person too, by the looks of it. YouTube user name of CrazyBreakingNews (either that, or the folk ‘working’ for CBN are being tailed by VFBs (Very Fast Blimps) for some reason).

If he had time to edit this. Bring on a forensics team, if you could. Not easy and quick to forge, but yes, consider the possibility by all means.

Let’s just say what you see is what you get. What could it be? Clearly, a UFO. What that amounts to, I can’t say, of course. Hence UFO. Couldn’t even begin to guess, although wouldn’t mind a meteoroligist physicist tip about now, for some tentative possibilities I’m not well versed in. Can’t jump to little green men right away.

If it were shiny and had “RAAF frisbee comp 2012” on it, that would help narrow things down a little.

Give this 1966 event a crack:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westall_UFO

and related doco (made by a Canberran) is very compelling and to the point, no new age fluff blah, just says it straight up as investigated (or disappeared or changed their names or had their cameras withheld and the rest of it). Even if it was a town-wide hallucination or whatever else, it’s still very compelling stuff.

Further to the 1966 Westall Incident mentioned above, here’s the link to the documentary made about it:

Was this photo stitched or something? Just to the right of that diagonal blob, there’s a clear line that runs down the entire photo, with the right side slightly paler than the left. What’s the go there?

No, it’s just one photo.
I think that line is the curtain.

Hmm… Looks a bit like the one that I saw over Lake BG some 10 years ago.

Actually, I didn’t SEE it. I took a photo of the lazy hot air balloons floating over the lake and only several days later did I realise what I’d captured on my digital camera.

At first I thought it was just the reflection of a light source from within my hotel room, at Crowne Plaza, since my hands and the camera were also captured in the photo due to the reflection by the large glass window.

But, because the object was shown in the photo as being DIAGONAL, I realise that it couldn’t have been a reflection as there was no source of light within the room that was DIAGONAL to make such distinct and clear reflection. My hotel room was minimal in decor, hence the only source of light was the down lights, which is shown in the photo as a white oval shape. And there were no mirrors present in the room.

Here’s the photo.
I do have a 2400×1800 pixel version of the raw, in case anyone is interested.

Frankly, all I can say is “Where the hell did that white blob come from??”. The camera I used back then never showed that white blob in any photos taken after that so… Can’t explain.

There are some much higher quality CGI videos than this one, see here:

Something like this would be a lot easier to fake.

If it is Canberra, what are those white things in the top left? Also looks suss to film out a window at nothing, blocking half the view with a wing.

I would like to believe.

However, the presence of pyramids, hot-air balloons and satellite dishes make the photo a little too good.

Looks kinda like an ascending weather balloon.

(Well okay not that hard to forge but I’m going to go with raaf frisbee just to get me out the door)

Whoever took this video was ignoring the rules. By the time aircraft flaps are deployed, the captain has make the ‘cabin crew prepare the cabin for landing’ announcement, which is the point where electronic devices must be turned off.

The positive thing to come out of all of this is that our alien overlords are pretty damn small. I reckon we can take them.

Was this a virgin australia plane? From our office window, we usually see planes take off and ascend along the line of Mt Ainslie… we noticed yesterday (or could’ve been a day before, I can’t remember now) that something was following the plane but under it. We thought it was just a light plane but it still seemed awfully close. After a while the object veered away and we lost sight of it. I wonder if this was the same thing??

Not quite

(While we’re at it, anyone got any tips on low light filming? I wanna catch me some sky carp).

Hello, I’m government man, come from the government. That’s no UFO, that’s just an experimental government aircraft. Nothing to see here, case closed.

Have a nice day.

Yes I know about “Flight Mode” but still!

But still …, what? There is no correlation that cell phones on flights cause any problems what so ever. Additionally, Australia does not even have any regulation that prohibits the usage of cell phones on flights: http://www.amta.org.au/pages/Mobile.Phones.and.Aircraft

You can have electronics on while cruising. Take off and landing, that’s switch off time.

I’ve gotta be more careful where I fly my R/C Star Destroyer…

What? Someone’s seen a UFO without being prompted by Today Tonight doing a story about the subject?

This is a breakthrough.

Flying sheep?

Hell this will get them out of the woodwork. Seems to be doin’ a fair rate of knots
