Um... What colour is avocado again? Worst place to buy a sandwich

The Court Yard Cafe in Deakin took $12.20 from me, being payment for:

1. a white roll with grey slimy stuff claiming to be avocado, a tooth-jarringly tough strip of aubergine, some oily “chargrilled” capsicum and a piece of tissue paper coloured to look like swiss cheese; and

2. an impressively large chocolate muffin which, upon closer inspection, turned out to be one of those joke muffins made out of a rubber sponge.

Expensive? Tick. Inedible? Tick. Return visit scheduled? Big fat cross.

Wow, someone got served crap, overpriced food at a Canberra eatery – who would have guessed?

I can at least put in a good word for the Court Yard Cafe’s fruit salad – being gluten intolerant, it’s very nearly the only thing I can eat there!

I used to work in Deakin and they have – without doubt – the worst coffee in canberra.

It was made in front of me – kind of. In other words, they did a lot of rummaging around under the counter and then presented me with the finished product. I didn’t unwrap it until I got back to my office, so didn’t complain to the manager.

The muffin may have been actual food but I only had the one bite to go off, which was really chewy and similar to foam rubber.

Unless things have changed they make sandwiches to order in front of you.

On the flipside I’ve generally enjoyed the food there (been there about 6 times over the past 10 years). It’s disappointing if another good cafe has followed the trend and gone bad though.

grey slimy stuff parading as avocado was probably the real thing, but no longer fresh. I would have taken it back to the counter and demanded a fresh avocado be cut up. Was the sandwich pre-made or did they make it in front of you. I find it’s best to avoid the pre-made as you don’t know how long it’s been there.

Thanks for the tip, though, I certainly will not be going there

I usually do prefer my avocado green and unslimy. I have to be in quite a strange mood to want it slimy. Sort of vaguely suicidal but not quite certain if I want to go all the way.

Was the muffin really made from foam rubber?! Or did it just taste like it did? The sanger sounds dreadful.

And I predict that someone will shortly demand to know if you bailed up the manager to inform them of your disatisfaction and if you didn’t then your disatisfaction is invalid and you are wrong etc etc.

A place to avoid by the sounds of it. Anywhere that can stuff up a sandwich has got problems.

I read another review recently about a place in Manuka (okay so Therese Rein) goes there ! that charged $12 – $13 for a small slice of quiche and a few lettuce leaves. I say you can’t beat the good old hamburger joint which I assume can still make yummy sandwiches !

Noted, Granny and will do so in future. But a pic of this would have put you off your own lunch!

Where is the pic, darnit, Weeziepops? What is a food review without pics?! Nevertheless, I shall trust you, as I am the trusting type.

: )

Go to Maccas – disregard all these hippie joints.
