On the 8th of March a Centenary lunch will be held a the Convention Centre by UN Women Australia.
The sold out event will feature special guest, Justice Catherine Davani of the Supreme Court of Papua New Guinea. Executive Director of UN Women Australia, Julie McKay said Justice Davani’s visit to Canberra was a highlight of this year’s event.
“Justice Davani has been a pioneer throughout her 28 year legal career in Papua New Guinea, as the first woman appointed to the National and Supreme Courts. Her achievements are as important as they are courageous in a nation where 67 per cent of women experience violence and where women have very limited access to support services, “ Ms McKay said.
“All women have the right to live free of violence, and proceeds from our International Women’s Day events will help UN Women to expand its critical services program for women experiencing violence in Papua New Guinea,” she said.
