To celebrate the arrival of spring and their partnership with Canberra’s festival of flowers, Underground Spirits has produced a limited edition gin which will exclusively be sold at Floriade 2019.

Distilled by Canberra’s award-winning spirits brand, Lakeside Gin will only be available at Floriade from 14 September to 13 October in Canberra’s Commonwealth Park.

Underground Spirits CEO Claudia Roughley said the gin is, in essence, the spirit of Canberra.

“Visitors to Floriade are invited to have their own ‘spring gin fling’ and sip on our delicious Underground Spirits Lakeside Gin at Floriade in Canberra,” Ms Roughley said.

“Inspired by Floriade and made from Underground’s uniquely cryofiltered wheat grain spirit, it is aromatic, clean and crisp, just like a spring day in Canberra at Floriade.

Our Lakeside Gin evokes thoughts of fresh flowers blooming. This gin is fresh, subtle and delicate, and an exquisitely smooth finish awaits at the end – the hallmark of Underground Spirits.

“Proudly made in Canberra, the home of Floriade.”

Underground Spirits CEO Claudia Roughley said the gin is, in essence, the spirit of Canberra.

Underground Spirits has renewed its partnership with Floriade as the festival’s official gin and vodka partner for the second year in a row, with staff set to run a pop-up bar Ginternational Underground at the festival.

The bar will serve up their refreshing gins and vodkas that have put the Canberra distillery on the international map, along with their own twist on popular cocktails from around the world.

As a bonus, they will also be selling local wine from Contentious Character and local beer from Capital Brewing Co.

Ginternational will be open daily at Floriade from noon to 5 pm, and on each night of Floriade Nightfest, 3-6 October.

Lakeside Gin is a limited edition, available for purchase onsite at Floriade’s Shop CBR, from Underground’s Ginternational pop-up bar and at the Canberra and Region Visitors Centre during Floriade. It will retail at $95 per bottle.

It appears Floriade can’t function without a big helping of alcohol. Alcohol at this festival needs to be banned lest it could degenerate into something like the old Canberra Day “Legless by the Lake” celebrations of the 1980 – 1990s.
