The following in as an email, the location will be revealed on RA at the appointed hour…

As an antidote for our time, the Cashews are rolling out a new and rather querky initiative…..THE SUMMER OF “GUERILLA GIGS”. A series of totally acoustic gigs in unlikely places ’round Canberra, with locations to be kept secret until 1 hour before each gig. Exciting! Assuming anyone actually turns up, these gigs will probably look a bit like hippy gatherings. Perhaps we should wear flowers.

The season commences with a Cashews-only guerilla gig (guest stars will feature hereafter)

Location: We’re not telling you…yet. Read on
Date: Monday 12 December 2005
Time: 8.00pm to 8.45pm
Kid and Dog friendly? Yep

What you need to do…
If you want to get an email or sms letting you know the location, can you please email lame@incanberra.com.au with “LOCATION PLEASE” in the subject and how you wish to be notified (email address or mobile no for SMS). Doing this doesn’t mean you\re promising to come along, it just means you want to be told where the gig is. The email/sms next Monday at 7pm will only go to those who’ve done this.

Pls pass this on to anyone you think might love it.

loadedog’s got a multimedia extravaganza of the show online now.

I went. The sun setting over the Brindies with the lights of Canberra below made for a gorgeous backdrop. About 40 people turned up. It was luckily a warm and clear evening, with a lovely breeze.

It was a totally acoustic gig, just the two guitars, two voices, an occasional piano accordian appearance and a guy tapping a snare drum.

It was therefore quite quiet, but that was no problem, despite the occasional plane taking off behind the mountain and that group of annoying dickheads who stood about ten feet away from the ‘stage’ admiring the view, talking and laughing (Grrr).

As the sun set, a small plague (possibly just one) of very large mozzies descended (ascended?) and started biting my legs as I videoed the last few songs. I’ll be posting a review on Loadedog later today if anyone wants to see the footage.

Credit to the Cashews for a great idea, thinking outside the square as it were, and proving (as with their back yard gigs) that contemporary music is not confined to smoky pubs and drunk audiences that couldn’t give a flying. Oh, and the music was delightful as usual (check out Insatiable Banalities #13 for a sample).

So did anyone go? Was it worth it?

Just think how many couples will have to find somewhere else to go tonight.

hmmm quirky.

Interesting idea, nice one.
