johno and the trannies

Today Unearthed Review glasses passersby with Johno and the Trannies.

There are over 700 Canberra bands with tracks on the TripleJUnearthed website. In 2011 we’re going to explore them. (Previous reviews are available)

Today’s random selection is Johno and the Trannies who’ve torn themselves away from the skate park long enough to make this statement about themselves:

Aussie skate drunk punk rock! Johno & the Trannies were born deep in the heart of Belco and the disorderly group have been gathering drunken momentum ever since destroying the Ground Floor in their first show for the CBRMY back in 2004.

Johno, Brow, Thommo & Ryan have all been skating in Belco since back in the day, and continue to tear it new assholes on a regular basis. Alcohol abuse, child maintenance, family commitments, unemployment, exploding heads, hangovers, lack of money have not held these strapping young lads back.

Johno’s commitment, lyrical genius & skate rock skills are ledgendary. Brow is fuelled by beer and cigies and is dangerously armed with a cherry, sharp pointed axe. Ryan should need a licence for his dangerous hip thrusting antics and Thommo drums like a (well manicured) maniac on PCP.

Johno & the Trannies are just as keen to get you drunk and broken as they are to rock your cocks (and vaginas) off. Just you wait…

This is not punk as some spotty teen whining that he’s fallen off his skateboard.

This is punk as large, scary, sneering men.

If you put a bikie gathering to music it would sound a lot like this.

Be warned before downloading, the words are not safe for work.

It’s simple stuff, but it’ll get you bouncing around, and if there are no kids around maybe singing along too.

Four and a half stars.

love em. brows a legend of a man.

Prompted by this series I trawled through the J’s unearthed website a few weeks ago and came across these guys. They’re as energetic as Frenzal Rhomb and about half as witty – which is good enough for me!

If you can listen to “sh*t the bed” without even a guilty snigger then I wouldn’t want to have your company over dinner. I chuckled heartily in low-brow delight.
