Unearthed Review: Kasha. No stars

Kasha

Unearthed Review can’t believe this is happening.

We decide to only review artists that have won accolades and we get Kasha’s offering.

Kasha have this to say about themselves:

‘What A Colourful Mouth’ – Kasha’s first release on 7 inch vinyl.

Recorded and mixed with Casey Rice (Dirty Three, Pikelet, Tortoise), this single sees the young Canberra quartet rework the traditional notion of rock music, approaching tension and repetition with dissonance and metric imbalance.

It may be art but I’m really not sure it’s music. That Richard Kingsmill himself gave it 4/5 suggests he’s bored with music as we know it.

Physically painful to listen to it was universally reviled in The Eagle’s Nest, as was I for inflicting it on the denizens.

It’s reminiscent of the worst of Joy Division, only worse.

Simple, incomprehensible, and unpleasant.

When you’re tired of life it’s time to listen to these two tracks.

No stars, and frankly that’s being kind.

one can not help to find this article highly amusing!
five stars for comedic value,
zero stars for credibility or relevancy.
golly gosh johnboy…

The second song reminds me of all the things I hate about Radiohead.

Someone better ring Something For Kate and let them know they’re no longer the worst band in Australia.

Hmm. Well, I understand where you were trying to come from – but it just came out strange. Better luck next time kiddo

I’m in the process of uploaded their two new tracks to their new Vimeo page. I’ll post a link here when It’s done. Really great songs.

They’re f’n awesome! SERIOUSLY good for something of this genre in Canberra. If you’re into Battles, Mars Volta or even King Crimson these guys will give you grins.

What johnboy calls “incomprehensible, and unpleasant” I call intriguing and strangely refreshing!

Checked out the myspace page expecting to hate it. But it was actually pretty good – atmospheric post-rock stuff. Not everyone’s taste (and not the sort of music anyone gets famous for), but I was pleasantly surprised.

And these two songs on the unearthed page?

The player wasn’t working on my computer. I did note that they weren’t the same songs though.

Maybe they’ve progressed?

I find this pretty hilarious. I’m going to screen cap the page and send it to you when they’re massive

I would dearly love to be proven wrong. By its nature these reviews are limited to the songs presented.

Hmm, totally understandable. Either way – they’re one of our towns best live acts, with their new songs spawing dropped jaws. Next time they play, I’ll shoot you a message. Well worth getting to know them while they’re small
