Today Unearthed Review is laughing at itself with Rafe Morris.

There are over 700 Canberra bands with tracks on the TripleJUnearthed website. In 2011 we’re going to explore them. (Previous reviews are available)

Today’s random selection is Rafe Morris who hasn’t managed to post a photo and has kept his description brief:

The front man from Dahahoo now stands alone on stage. It’s much more noticeable when he forgets his words now, but he doesn’t mind looking like an idiot. He can’t help it.

Rafe’s a regular part of the furniture in the Canberra live music scene.

Back in his Dahahoo days his song lyrics played second fiddle to danceability.

That’s really changed with his solo stuff.

The clever thing here is Rafe’s ability to look at the very darkest corners of the Australian psyche and still find something to joke about.

Coupled with some gorgeous soaring string arrangements (at least on the epic “Cummon Australia”) and crisp recording it’s really a “must download” performer lurking in the dross of Unearthed.

Rafe’s been mention on Riot a few times, so on JB’s recommendation I found his CD at the library.

Very funny, made a long car trip much easier for all concerned. 5 stars from me too.
