GhostNoises

Unearthed Reviews need you!

Actually they don’t, they just need me and the bands up on the Unearthed site.

Today my magic RNG spat out the number 13, and the 13th band on my list was GhostNoises, a one man pop-rock act.

Here’s what he has to say about himself:

Hi my name is Liam. I am 21 and live in Canberra. I like to make and experiment with my music. I tend to vary my songs, as I have many different influences and draw aspects from many different genres. Have a listen and check out my SoundCloud for more stuff.

Here’s what I have to say about him:

Someone needs to pay this guy to work with sound. Maybe somebody already does, it wouldn’t surprise me. The production value on these tracks is impressive, and easily better than a lot of what I hear on Unearthed. Liam knows how to record a quality track, and as someone who has no idea how to do that, but still appreciates when it’s done well I have to give kudos.

This guy knows how to make pretty sounds, which makes it tragic that he seems to have no idea how to make pretty sounds that are worth listening to.

Each song is in equal parts technically impressive, and utterly boring. I only made it through one of his tracks the whole way, the other two I had to skip ahead. Despite only having seconds left I I still had to press the next track button. My threshold had been reached and to keep listening would have risked me passing out completely.

GhostNoises like the musical equivalent of those designer suburbs they’re building up north, or a Labor Club, or that person you used to date but left because you realised that while they were perfectly nice and you got along just fine, there just had to be more to life than THIS.

Sound, but soulless.

The thing is I know some people who would love this, and you might be one of them.

I know people who care far more for quality recordings than they do quality songs.

If this is you, then enjoy.

If your tastes are a bit more like mine, then avoid.

One and a half stars.

it’s often more important to know what to make than how to make it.
