Canberra might be far away from the starting gates of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, but a locally based sports technology company had a part to play in putting horse-racing tragics across the country into the thick of the action.

Forget the television on the pub wall, the newspaper in one hand and smartphone in the other. Digital platform Inside Run promises to take the horse-racing experience to an “unparalleled digital level” and provide an interactive guide to the race that stops the nation.

The platform will allow all races across the Melbourne Cup Carnival to be live-streamed from seven different camera angles, using 360-degree user-controlled cameras across the racecourse to ensure racing fans don’t miss a moment.

Canberra’s Racing and Sports has provided an animated race predictor. This will analyse data to predict how a race will be run and where a horse will finish. This will be available for each of the 37 races across the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Combined with a dedicated News Wire feed – also by Racing and Sports – this will provide the latest news updates from Flemington right across the carnival, placing the most important news and information at users’ fingertips.

The platform, currently open to registrations of interest ahead of the carnival, is the work of the Victoria Racing Club (VRC), which partnered with Racing and Sports for the key AI-powered 3D-rendered video prediction components.

VRC Chief Executive Officer Steve Rosich said Inside Run was another digital asset to connect racing fans during the biggest week of racing.

“Inside Run offers both new and existing racing fans a number of products which can complement their Melbourne Cup Carnival experience or create an entirely different and exciting race day journey, wherever they are,” Mr Rosich said.

Racing and Sports CEO Stephen Crispe said the company was proud to partner with a world-class event like the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

“We’re really excited to be working so closely with the VRC to showcase our innovative and immersive technologies that are designed to appeal to a new demographic of racegoers,” Mr Crispe said.

“We achieved this by combining core elements of gamification with our data and analytics to create a world-class user experience with the VRC.”
