I am tired of all the right wing 2GB propaganda merchants talking about a science that they know nothing about. It is like a Athiest knocking the crap out of Christianity (Just like #34 did) when they don’t have a doctorate in The theory of evolution, without that doctorate that Athiest is relying on just as much faith as the Christian. It is time to be a bit greener for everyones future. Having a go at doing something is better than nothing.

Science Fail.

I don’t pretend to be a scientist by I have faith in the CSIRO – the governement scientists. If they support a carbon tax so do I. So you can shove your obnoxious internet lingo up your clacker!

“Science” is obnoxious internet lingo? Or do you mean “fail”?

In the context I used those words, I was suggesting that you saying that an Atheist without a Doctorate in the Theory of Evolution arguing against a creationist was relying on “Faith”, was totally missing the point (or failing to understand) the concept of science.

I was talking about “fail”, of the way in which you used it. Look I poorly worded the above but you know what I meant. I do not believe in evolution because I don’t truly understand it, and believe that to understand it I would need to study it for years at a tertiary level because at first look the whole theory is self contradicting. I am not a Creationist or an Athiest BTW. Also 2GB can suck a big fat one.

#27..Please answer this question: Do you believe that CO2 released by humans is causing the climate on earth to change? If so, do you think we should do something about it? If so, what is your plan – presumably not a carbon tax?

No I do not believe that the CO2 released by humans is the primary cause of the warming and cooling of the earths atmosphere, to put the blame for the droughts, warmer and cooler temperatures, sea level changes etc etc is scientific stupidity. It is almost as stupid as believing that we all came from Adam & Eve. Yes the earths temperature is changing based on records taken over a period of time which is equivelent to a period of a millisecond in earths histroy. So how can you possible know with 100% conviction that man is the cause of all the earths woes? Its like what happened to the theory that we were all going to be fried because of the hole in the ozone. and all other theories that go back through mans existance? Jeez there was even one that said the earth was flat. I do believe that modern society is wastefull when it comes to its consumption of energy and that alternatives need to be found as oil & coal are finate and polluting resources. But honestly you cannot be serious in saying that applying a tax to 500 companies then giving it to the end user as compensation for price rises makes any sense what so ever and will solve the earth problems? Man will never make any impact on climate change untill “ALL” nations on the face of the earth want to reduce their energy usage. This will not happen as two of the biggest producers are developing third world energy hungry countries, namely China and India. the amount of CO2 we produce in comparison to them is like a fart in a cyclone. Even then it will be mother nature and only mother nature that will determine the climatic changes that occur and dont occur. So seriously do you honestly think that man is the “sole culprit” for the changes to the global climatic system or are you simply one of the sheep that follows the mob without all the facts and figures first because its trendy and helps you sleep better at night believing you are changing the world by skipping every second breath?
The government could start by using all the billions of dollars its going to waste on setting up more money hungry departments, and relistically back the use of “back to grid” photovoltaic solar systems and hotwater systems on every new home, office and industrial complex that is build from now on in this country, and supporting the Australian solar industry that is dying a horrible slow death due to cheap imports from china. We have more than enough free sunshine in this country, why not use it?

Hey at least someone is trying to do something about it no matter HOW small. Who knows the tax might lead to a greener technology that may change the whole world. Australian scientists have had a hand in things that have changed the world before like antibiotics.

Well at least there’s some common ground on supporting solar energy there. (A few placards on the convoy supporting solar energy would have been welcome and make it look more thoughtful and less like an Alan Jones inspired hate-in.) Regardless of the logistics of getting 60 trucks around the place, it was a lack of participant interest which killed this in the arse, not logistical problems. You’re right, had 60 trucks all turned up at the same place at the same time, there would have been more logistical problems that 60 cars, but given that 60 trucks (who where all no doubt invited along) didn’t even bother showing up in the first instance kinda says something.

“The Carbon Tax aims to reduce Australia’s CO2 output by 160 million tonnes. World CO2 emissions in 2008 were 29,888,121 million tonnes.

So that makes Australia’s CO2 reduction 0.00053533% . That is such a small number its hard to comprehend. Think of it as approximately 5/10,000 or 5 divided by ten thousand percent.

However that is based on 2008 CO2 output, and the 160 million tonnes saving is aimed to happen in 2020. What is the percentage saving of the worlds CO2 output by Australia in 2020?

Well its predicted that CO2 output will rise by 1.2% per annum. That means in 2020 world carbon dioxide emissions will be 34,487,742 million tonnes.

So Australia’s carbon tax saves 0.000463933% of the worlds CO2 output. Its even less than 5 divided by ten thousand percent.

Billions of dollars of taxes on Australia people and businesses. Extra federal government agencies with thousands more bureaucrats. Businesses closing and businesses moving off-shore.

All to save 0.000463933% of the worlds CO2 output.””

LOL what? First of all, most of the trucks in the protest didnt actually have trailers. Also, most semi’s are just over 10m long, thats 2 holden commodores.

“The idea was to minimise it because, look, it was just going to be too difficult, even with 60 vehicles behind you it was incredibly hard to manage in terms of getting parking, in terms of getting fuel, getting food. We realised that we could actually collapse in on ourselves just by the sheer weight of numbers, and by the time we got to Canberra I really think it would have been a mess,” he said.

Yeah, I’m calling total BS on behalf of Mick Pattel… I’ve been on car club drives which have had way more cars than 60 (it looks quite impressive when you have 100 virtually identical make \ model cars all driving in a line) and yet everyone managed to get fuel \ food \ accom \ parking… It was fairly simple, you called ahead that such things might be a problem to warn them they will be swamped at a certain time, and you give everyone a proper itinerary with expected times… A CB radio or two doesn’t hurt either.

Here are some feel good figures for you “pro Carbon Tax” pedal pushers to mull over when you sip on your mungbean juice after your morning bike ride. These are the real facts….that I am sure Mr Geoff Lazarus, of Climate Active Australia, Penny Wong, Bob Brown or JooLIAR hasnt bothered to mention

What percentage of global emissions will Australias carbon tax reduce?

Labor/Greens alliance Prime Minister Julia Gillard does not like to answer this question, because it is such a small number.

The Carbon Tax aims to reduce Australia’s CO2 output by 160 million tonnes. World CO2 emissions in 2008 were 29,888,121 million tonnes.

So that makes Australia’s CO2 reduction 0.00053533% . That is such a small number its hard to comprehend. Think of it as approximately 5/10,000 or 5 divided by ten thousand percent.

Wow well done guys and girls,

What we need to know is at what cost to the Australian and its economy?

and most importantly the battling Australians that will have to suffer with ever rising costs of living, while forking out for this joke?

And as a footnote those who enjoyed the improved traffic conditions this morning…your welcome, sorry about the idiots on the bikes.

My thoughts exactly. Turns out that when it comes down to it, there’s a good deal fewer crazies willing to actually stand up and admit it than they’d hoped.

As has been mentioned already, I would also like to thank the organisers for giving me the best run in to work I’ve had in ages. You’re welcome back any time if you can promise a repeat of that (though please try to keep the honking down a bit – it loses its impact after the first, well, 2 seconds to be honest).

Maybe my eyes are going, but Id swear all those vehicles have ACT plates.

Pity the “unreal Australians” couldnt stay within their lanes or understand that travelling 2-abreast in a cycle lane is dangerous.. though, its not like theyll (be able to) receive any penalties.

Organiser Mick Pattel had this to say, claiming the low numbers were deliberate to keep things tidy:

“The idea was to minimise it because, look, it was just going to be too difficult, even with 60 vehicles behind you it was incredibly hard to manage in terms of getting parking, in terms of getting fuel, getting food. We realised that we could actually collapse in on ourselves just by the sheer weight of numbers, and by the time we got to Canberra I really think it would have been a mess,” he said.

Not sure if trolling or serious. Thats the most retarded comment i’ve seen on RA this week.

Any chance of a Name And Shame on the furniture truck? Bloody uncalled-for.

I hope the Unreal Australians had soem bunting or signage to signal who they were.

So one protest is allowed whilst the counter protest is not?

Would it be possible to contact the organisers of the convoy of no confidence and see if they can arrange to do this every Monday? The traffic conditions were great this morning and it was a nice start to Monday morning to not deal with traffic jams.

+1 to that! It was better than a friday before the long weekend drive to work! Haven’t had it this good in a long time!

I for one would like to thank the Real Australians in the convoy of no confidence for clearing Canberra’s roads and giving me the fastest run into work I’ve ever done…

I vote all motor & plant mechanics go on protest next Monday. They keep all your vehicles on the road.

I suggest they stand on the side of the road & throw spanners at cars in protest…………
