Val Jeffery - Water Utility

The Chief Minister has put out a media release saying the Government is going to legalise Tharwa legend, Val Jeffery’s reticulation of water in the town.

While it must be a relief for the Government that someone else is doing their job, we have to wonder if providing running water isn’t one of those jobs we thought we elected Mr. Stanhope to do?

They should make Val Jeffery the manager of the ACT. Not a politician, but someone who actually does the stuff. That’s what we need.

I’m not sure of the details, but there’s more to this. As I understand it, he started pumping the water to avoid paying abstraction costs and water charges (and then started providing it to the rest of Tharwa), so the ACT Govt is now attempting to get him to pay for it. Note the fifth paragraph. And note that it says a couple of times that he is “responsible” for paying the charges, not that he HAS paid it.

Knowing the comptempt in which one party holds the other I’d love to have seen the look on Val’s face when he received the letter. Ditto re the Independents JB but even some intelligent, articulate party MLAs possessed of oodles of common sense would be a welcome addition to the political scene.

Does Val Jeffrey remind anyone else of Alf Stewart?

assuming a decent crop of independents.

You have 2 years and 2 months to wait.

What double faced arse clowns this govt is.

They acknowledge the generosity that Val has emobodied on the community for years – at no cost to stanhope-less and his cronies of course.

Then with a stroke of the very same pen – but only weeks beforehand – promise to close down the Tharwa primary school which will devastate this tight knit community.

Bring on election day I say.

can we send our new water levy fee (tax) to Val insted of Sonic ??

It would be put to better use 🙂

but seriously, its ACTGOV’s job to supply water. what a joke.
