The ABC has the sad news that one of Canberra’s most respected surgeons, John Buckingham, has died of pancreatic cancer at just 63 years of age.

A great loss to the community by all accounts.

UPDATE: Chief Minister Stanhope’s tribute is now online.

I’ve heard many good things about Dr Buckingham too. He will be a big loss. May he RIP.

Vale. I hope I see the day when real heroes like Dr Buckingham get the recognition that sporting buffoons get.

Dr Buckingham was a lovely man. He was so caring to my late mother, keeping us in the loop with her progress etc that it was above and beyond what he had to do. I will never forget how much he cared..

He will be greatly missed by my family and my condolences to his family. RIP John Buckingham

A true gentleman and great doctor. I owe my life to his skill and dedication.

A great Man and Doctor

I could not speak highly enough about this man. A truly great and positive person who helped my family through some tough times.
RIP

Did some surgery on me a few years back. A caring gentleman, so unlike some of his money hungry and time poor compadres. Should be more like you John. RIP

A great Man and Doctor
