The Brumbies have let us know that Maureen Larkham, mother of Stephen, has passed away:

The husband of President Geoff and mother of Brumbies legend Stephen passed away on Thursday.

Such is the massive impact of Mrs Larkham’s passing that she was mentioned by both the Prime Minister Julia Gillard and the Opposition Leader Tony Abbott during the House of Representatives sitting on Thursday.

The entire Brumbies Rugby community would like to send their condolences to the Larkham family in this difficult time.

Mrs Larkham’s funeral will take place on Tuesday, 29 November at 10.30am at St John’s Church Reid.

(We’re pretty sure she was the wife of Geoff Larkham)

It’s pretty pathetic that the story about this on the Brumbies website states only that she was “the wife of President Geoff and mother of Brumbies legend Stephen” and goes on to imply that her relationship to these guys was why her death was “mentioned” in parliament by both the PM and Opposition Leader: http://www.brumbies.com.au/News/Article/tabid/1213/ArticleID/4993/Default.aspx The fact that she had a successful career as a parliamentary attendant, which is why she was actually mentioned in parliament, apparently isn’t worth mentioning.

The statements by Abbot and Gillard are at http://www.openaustralia.org/debates/?id=2011-11-24.56.2

‘husband’?

That’s what happens when you salary-cap proofreaders.

She was a long time attendant in the House of Representatives
