Some friends are looking for a venue to have a cocktail party for up to 50 people.

Outdoorsy location is preferred.

Any input ?

I’ve heard the Chisholm Tavern is rooly nice and now has an outdoor area 😉

Yes, it’s great now, huge outdoor area and great food to boot!

what, run out of internet buddies to invite?

$(#@!* hippies

the OPH courtyard is pretty good, the boathouse is where we have one of our annual events, the hyatt for everything else.

for something different, try the realm.

The Bookplate cafe at the National Library is brilliant.

Minimum 55 people, i think this function will scrape in with 45ish unfortunately.

knightsbridge in braddon – if you put $1000 on the bar you get the whole thing privately for you and your guests for 4 hours on a saturday afternoon!

Yeah, an option. Hippo Bar is $1900 with $700 bar tab ( so 1200 )

Toriness- did you mean if you put on a $1000 bar tab you get the room for free on Sat arvos?
If so, The Knightsbridge deal sounds heaps better than Hippo

+1 for KB friendly staff and a great atmosphere with a good cocktail menu, no food though. Not outdoorsy at all.

I wouldn’t go to Kremlin, last time I was there the cocktail menu wasn’t great.

The sculpture gardens at the National Gallery were nice (although we were there at night and it was a wine and beer affair, not sure of cocktail quality) and I’ve heard nothing but praise for Bookplate at the library.

Do the Ginger Room at Old Parliament House do functions in the gardens there?

I second Cocktails With Flair http://cocktailswithflair.com/

I know the guys who run it, they are great cocktail barmen and will do a great job.

Plus I just saw on their website if you book before May you get the first hour free

Kremlin or HaHa bar…

If you’re planning on using outside caterers/cocktail people you could look at the Carillion – you can hire the insides o it – not sur about 50 people though.

NPG foyer or entrance … and they have an events room overlooking the parly triangle …

Trinity Dickson for sure, … best cocktails and staff around by far.

Parlour would come second

I had the WORST experience at The Deck – I had never experienced such terrible customer service until December last year. Whilst as part of the ‘follow up’ they told me the function area is managed by different people to the restaraunt area, the restaraunt never followed up with my refund and the functions area never got in touch about a sample menu for a function we had coming up (as promised).

Is it a cocktail party for a specific reason? Or just somewhere nice for some drinks?

A friend of mine recently went to a cocktail style wedding at the Sculpture Gardens at the National Gallery. By all reports it was lovely.

How about something at Kanberra Winery? I heard a great report about their function centre the other day from a friend who’d organised a UC funtion there.

That’s interesting…a girl at my work had booked her wedding reception there but was forced to move it only a month or two before the wedding (this Saturday) because the function manager had promised a certain capacity in a new room that was supposed to be built and forgot to advise them that the renovations hadn’t even started yet… so she was rushing around trying to find a venue for 80 people at very short notice for a wedding on a Saturday night.

The function manager was apparently let go, or was already leaving, so hopefully they have someone better now!

Ha ha Bar in Belconnen – outdoor deck area, and I think they do packages for cocktails… Really good prices on food too, they gave us heaps of extra’s when I had my 30th there…

Interesting ! Thanks. Belco is the only downside :/

+1 for Parlour in terms of service and quality, not particularly outdoorsy though.

The deck at Regatta point does have an excellent view, not the best quality.

The Mecca Bah bar is good – would fit 50 people nicely and it has heated outdoor areas.

Flint at the NewActon pavillion has an outdoor seating/lounge area adjacent to the restaurant and bar, and they do canapes(and presumably suitable drinks) for group functions…

The area has a pretty nice atmosphere, worth having a look.

Nice, but not very private.

Too big, heard bad things about the Deck.

Edgars ? Big bogan.

It’s not outdoors but the Julep Lounge in Manuka is nice

Yeah, the Yacht Club is a bit old and scroungy outside. I wouldn’t suggest the deck at Regatta point. Terrible service and not a lot on offer apart from the view.

Went to something at Thoroughbred Park once. Good to look out over the track – not sure if they do cocktails.

You will want somewhere with outdoor heaters too if this event is coming up soon.

Trinity Dickson

Cocktail, drinks preferably. They can always get Cocktails With Flair to come out.

The yaught club is ok yea. Bit scroungy though.

OPH courtyard

When you say cocktail, do you mean cocktails as in drinks or cocktail food?

The marquee at the Yacht Club is nice and outdoorsy but doesn’t do cocktail drinks, just food, beer, wine etc

I went to a mate’s wedding cocktail party in the function room at the bottom of the museum a year or three ago and it was pretty cool.
