Vote delayed as the pogo tide builds

The ABC has bad news for the Zeddites:

But hundreds of members were barred from taking part in the vote and many are challenging the result.

They claim the process unfairly favoured Mr Seselja.

They successfully petitioned the Liberal Party Executive to agree to hold a vote on whether to overturn the preselection process and hold a fresh preselection vote of members.

The vote was to be held on March 15 but it has now been deferred.

That will potentially hundreds of party members to attend a branch meeting and hence qualify to be involved in the preselection process.

Now that the momentum has so strongly turned against the forces of Zed one has to wonder ho w long the Legislative Assembly Liberals will remain in his thrall.

Jeez…there’s some pretty Shakespearean s*** going down here. A unsuspecting grey-bearded king has been assassinated by an ambitious upstart. Then things turn bad for the usurper.

Has anybody else been thinking of Macbeth, or is it just me?

Pretty sure it’s just you.

C’mon…read the play…think harder…it’s there, and you’ll see it after a while.

Apparently Zed is thinking of running for Canberra now.

A move that would have been a lot smarter before he told the electors of tuggeranong to what to do to the horse they rode in on.

That horse has bolted for Zed now too.

I reackon he would’ve been a chance if he did that straight up, but now he wouldn’t get up in Canberra if he was on the Labor ticket.

Destroyed by his own ambition one would suspect.

And if the ACT ever-so-narrowly elects Senator Sheikh, and that is the crucial vote which prevents PM Abbott from doing pretty much whatever he wants in the Senate, that would be a crowning achievement. Canberrans may yet have much to thank Zed, and his confrere, for

Anyway, if Labor switches to Shorten, which seems to be the latest rumour.

Rumour .. headline in the News press, all the same really.

Not just News, Fairfax have obviously got a few bob on Shorten, as well – even if their “Kevin could save the West” stories get more prominence. Shorten’s public positioning reminds me of Abbott’s in the latter period of the Howard years even though, at the time, Abbott seemed somewhat more improbable.

No idea how Zed (or Tio) think that this can possibly now end up in their favour.

There was a serious undercurrent that: had these consequences not taken place, the effort of liberal party members to help get Zed elected would have been pretty much naught, bar the foolish group of the young liberals.

For every card carrying liberal, you have a few who perhaps have some of the same ideas or ideals, but are more “swing”. Most of these people, take the logic approach of “who do I want representing me” and “what are the party/member’s policies” rather than the automatic vote to toe the political line.

These other few see what Zed has done, and want nothing to do with it. Here’s a tip Zed: You’re not Julia Gillard, you need a more decisive process to get up in politics than what you’ve done, and if you fail in this. Leave. Just quietly resign, leave this town and try your luck elsewhere. You’re already tainted, if you lose youre about as apporachable as a fukushima reactor

I think they should stick with Tom Sefton – he has a better story to tell when people ask “what has this guy done aside from politics”, and while he doesn’t have Zed’s name recognition, he equally doesn’t have the taint of an unseemly public brawl. Anyway, if Labor switches to Shorten, which seems to be the latest rumour, Gai Brodtmann shouldn’t have too much to worry about whoever the Libs run.

You’re absolutely right. He should have done that in the first place if his ambitions were federal. Stupid move.

anyone willing to make a prediction?

Ok how about both camps (though I am told nothing about the Liberal Party is camp) put forward a candidate each who will mate and deliver the chosen one Candidate Love Child. This child will be raised totally within the party parented by Gary, Zed and Margaret Reid (in no particular order), think 3 men and a baby, well 2 men, 1 ex Senator/ex President of the Senate and a baby. When the love child grows to be of eligible age they are then put forward as the Liberal Party Candidate for the Senate seat. At that state I might just care enough about the result.

Though it does cross my mind that if Zed was as confident about his standing in the community as it seems why didnt he have the intestinal fortitude to stand for the lower house seat of Canberra. Gotta make those Liberal lower house contenders feel pretty irrelevant.

You would have to think both Zed and Tio are both done for. Maybe he should run for the senate as an independent when it all falls over.

With Zed’s assassination strategy in tatters you’d have to think he’s done for.

This is about Tio and Tio only.

Whether it’s on the coat-tails of Zed, or by the will of the Liberals, he will never hold any office in our Party again.

Hear hear, if only this were to work out to be true.

I’d probably even rejoin, but would be unlikely to ever seek to represent the party in an executive position again.

I too am disillusioned.

No comment on why the vote has been deferred. I would suggest that Zed just do the right thing and commit to another pre-selection in the interests of the party without bothering with a vote.

The vote was deferred as two of the three Electorate Branch Chairpersons put in a complaint to head office that the meeting wasn’t declared in a timely fashion. Very likely because Tio engineered it that way – so after the motion was passed at the March 15 meeting, he could sheepishly say that the meeting was actually invalid and the motion passed did not count.

Let me be perfectly clear here – Tio Faulkner is in it for Tio Faulkner. Not for the Party, not for the members, not for Canberra. He’s not even in this for Zed. He would have Zed elevate to Senate, then stand down as President of the Canberra Liberals immediately. A week later, Zed will offer him a job as Chief of Staff or Senior Adviser. This is about Tio and Tio only.

Whether it’s on the coat-tails of Zed, or by the will of the Liberals, he will never hold any office in our Party again.

But then again, the only time Zed ever does the ‘right’ thing is when it is for himself.

He’s been even more noticeably absent from day to day life in this wonderful town.
