Vote Liberal for a chance to sit on the National Memorials Committee

Senator Humphries has shouted forth a battle cry sure to stir Canberrans souls.

Should we elect a Liberal Government at some future election he promises that after years of neglect by successive Governments, both Labor and Liberal, the vacant seats on the National Memorials Committee (set aside for ACT residents amongst the Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition, and the Secretary of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs) will finally be filled!

“The Coalition will fill two vacant positions reserved for ACT residents on the Canberra National Memorials Committee,” Coalition spokesman on the ACT Senator Gary Humphries said today. “Canberrans have passionate views about what goes on in their city.

“The concern surrounding the World Wars Memorials is a timely reminder that no Australians feel more passionately about the values of the Bush Capital than the people who live in it.

“A recent hearing of the Joint Standing Committee on the National Capital and External Territories in Canberra also highlighted the dangers of not having local representation on the Canberra National Memorials Committee.”

I know it’s a vote changer for me. How about you?

The Morgan poll also supports the idea that the Coalition are the preferred part at the moment.

Mark Latham was doing very well in the polls at one stage, as was John Hewson.

Yes they were. My point isn’t that one leader is better than the other. What I was saying is that the available data indicates that one party is currently more popular than the other – despite claims to the contrary. I understand that polls aren’t hard facts, but they are the closest indication we have short of holding an actual election.

fair enough – can’t argue with anything you have said there.

I have noticed a number of polls during this year that have held the coalition as the preferred party, but Gillard as preferred PM (Not all, but many)

I don’t assume for a second this means people want the liberals led by Julia, but more that she is at best considered the (slightly) lesser of two evils, however, overall, there is a number of people who would want a coalition govt.

So they want the coalition, without the abbot, that’s the strongest message i have got from reading polls (newspaper or otherwise) this year.

Ditch abbot, and set up a sound opposition, and you will win back all the people who seem to be saying “I would have voted Liberal, if Abbot was not there!”

The current govt.s failures are equally the fault of both parties, the Labour/Green Coalition, for creating them, and the Liberal/National coalition, for removing themselves as a credible alternative!

Oh yeah, federal liberal is great for Canberra. After they appease their bogan tabloid-reading constituents by throwing thousands of public servants out of their jobs, they then quietly hire twice as many of them back again.

Did anyone see the Tour de France-inspired cartoon in yesterday’s CT about Abbot vs Gillard? Said it all, really, it was bloody good! How could anyone even contemplate that lunatic Abbott?

The Morgan poll also supports the idea that the Coalition are the preferred part at the moment.

As soon nas the libs realise Tony Abbott is the reason they didn’t win the last election the more likely they’ll win the next. They are as useless as NSW origin selectors IMO.

Most swinging voters, myself included hate both the leaders, but Abbott is the least tolerable. In fact I’m convinced the plan when Abbott became leader was for him to be the scapegoat to lose the election to Rudd. How things change.

I think we may be headed to an even bigger hung parliament myself. The negativity of Abbott vs the unpopular Carbon tax.

The polls appear to contradict your assertion.

A poll from The Australian that says that the Liberals are the way to go – colour me unsurprised.

How about I colour you uninformed.

The poll is from Newspoll. Not the Australian. The Australian reported it. There’s a difference.

http://au.nielsen.com/news/200512.shtml – this poll, from a different source (wow – also not a newspaper!) a week earlier, suggests that the both leaders were about even, but the coalition was still the preferred party.

I’m not big on trusting the polls to much, but your link here does show that, based on this particular poll, Gillard is down at the moment, I imagine this will continue to slide back and forth as each respective leader does another stupid thing.

I also note it re-enforces the fact that both parties made a blunder with their leader swaps, while I’m not one of those “I didn’t vote for her types” I do believe the leader is an important consideration when voting, so I can understand the issue people have with the change, and it looks like who ever decided that was a good move was an idiot, same goes for the opposition.

However the back of my mind will always wonder if the swap had never happened, would we end up with the same result, i.e., is Turnbull’s popularity over Abbot equal to Rudd’s popularity over Gillard, therefore resulting in the same hung parliament? Who knows, we can’t go back and try again!

Tony Abbot would be far better than the ranga who is no longer supported by RANGA.

Your kidding right, That creep did this country enough damage as Health Minister, I would hate to think what he would do as PM.

However please don’t take this as support for the Govt. They are not as dangerous as Abbot, but damn it they are close.

Right now we could do with a sound government of a slightly more conservative nature (I swing vote, being a rusted on anything is as pointless as never voting) looking at where we currently stand. but any party that sees leadership material in abbot is a Joke…and so is the govt…and Katter is too…and the greens are getting scary…and Hanson wants to come back…Oh FFS?!?!?!? who is worth voting for???

I actually agree – I just wanted to bring up the point about RANGA and this seemed like a fun opportunity! You know RANGA is an actual organisation, right?

Not till i read your first post, but when i saw he capitals, i had a look!

I’m really starting to think if they both buggered off, WE might win the next election!

Very interesting! Clearly the anti lake war memorial activities have rattled the Governor-General, who is patron of the (awful) project, along with her “designer” husband. She is most probably feeling ill-advised, and wishes she didn’t have to back the memorial. I expect this is a tactic: “oops! We didn’t consult!” to create an excuse for the GG to graciously exit the patronage. btw it looks as though the Lake War Memorials Committee has shifted focus from “no memorial to war” to the far more sensible (and more likely to garner Defence support) “they’re ugly and inappropriate”.

Sorry Gary, but your maths are shite.

So we elect the Libs to gain 2 seats on this Committee, but lose how many public service positions?

It staggers me that you have the gall to be seen and heard in public.

And I’m no Labor lover.

There are a number of issues with our current government, and that seems to be across the board, no one seems to be all that happy with their work, for a number of reasons.

There is one man who can fix this, someone who has the power to help Australia take a forward step, into a better future: TONY ABBOT!

If Mr Abbot could please F%&K OFF, and let a credible opposition form, then we might finally have a real choice next election, right now, we have Socialist, More Socialist, And the missing link, to choose from! (It’s not a bad go, if your socialist.)

Tony Abbot would be far better than the ranga who is no longer supported by RANGA.

Vote Liberal to get a seat on the National Memorial Committee and get Tony Abbot instead?
