Yesterday we noted that the Economic Development Directorate had taken the unusual step of asking Canberrans to vote on how they’d like new supermarkets in Dickson to be developed.
But it did not take long for numerous readers to report problems with the poll.

3:59 pm, 22 Nov 11I just voted at the site and the ‘summary of my vote’ that followed was exactly the opposite of how I had voted. I checked. The one I had chosen was still marked, and was the opposite option from the summary. Quite annoying, as it defeats the purpose of voting. It’s hardly life and death, but still…
There seems to be something wrong with the site, and I have reported the fault. I wonder if anyone else has noticed the same problem?
When I got home last night I was intrigued to see a flyer in my inner north letterbox asking me to vote.
This morning I decided to give it a try for myself only to discover this warning:
We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with the online voting tool. We apologise for any inconvenience and will provide notification on our homepage when this has been rectified.
We’ve sent in a request to the Directorate asking what is happening and what will become of votes already cast.
UPDATE: A spokesperson for the EDD has had this to say:
I wanted to bring you up to speed with the problems we’ve encountered with the Dickson supermarket options poll we’ve been running on EDD’s website. Something went wrong with it yesterday evening – IntACT thinks it was some kind of system fault – and led to the problems Rioters have raised. We’ve rebuilt the page and it is now running as we intended. We think we’ve captured all the votes lodged, but to be sure are urging people who may already have voted to have another go. Any questions, please give me a call.
Further Update: the page might be working beautifully, but at the moment is not accessible to the public:
Another Update: It appears to be working now.
