Wanna buy some cheap missiles? MDBA comes to Canberra

UPI has word that the Euro missile makers MDBA are opening a Canberra office as the Asian arms race hots up.

Australian war nerds have long been envious of the sexy, sexy missiles that the Europeans can consider before buying up the boringly named (but rather spectacular in action) Standard Missiles of the US Navy.

The soon to arrive Hobart Class destroyers are going to have a lot of vertical launch tubes we’ll need to fill.

On the other hand any missile is only as good as its system integration so getting all top trumps on specifications really is a kids game.

In the bigger picture if Euro arms manufacturers are seeing a Canberra office as a gateway to the booming Asian markets that can only be good for this town.

My experience is that the big international gun runners tend to keep things in-house (in a national sense) as much as possible. So you’ll probably find lots of Euro accents around the MDBA offices, but not so many Australians.

I think we train some of their people at ADFA and/or RMC so it sounds feasible that we have military ties with them.

Was told some years ago that the Sultan of Brunei would let our Defence people know he was going to fire a cruise missile off. As they are worth a heap of cash, our cash stapped mob would fly over to have a squiz. Sort of like a family get together at the Gunning fireworks display.
