Want to be a Canberra stormchaser?

Facebook has spawned an ACT stormchaser / photographers group:

Hello there…

Canberra seems to be missing a storm chasing / photography group on FB… So I thought I’d add one.

Hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot more over the coming months… pity its been so quiet here lately. QLD’s been getting hammered.

Basically, if you know of people interested and are from or are in Canberra and surrounds and are interested in this type of stuff… maybe send this way, add them, invite them. 🙂

So stay safe and if you do get something good send it in to images@the-riotact.com .

Hi everyone:

I’m the Admin and founder of the ACT Storm Chasers/Photographers group. I just wanted to say thanks for the plug here on Riot-Act! 🙂

I’m also the Co-Founder and Admin of a much larger group for photographers in general called “The Photographers Den” – which now has over 1200 members and is growing steadily. It’s mostly geared toward Canberra and surrounds but has people coming to it from all over Aus and internationally. You can find it here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/180075595336454/

Both groups are freely open to the public to join, discuss and learn.

Thanks again. Hope to see some of you there!

Ben.

You can just say it. We all know what Godwins Law is. Its not like you just discovered fire for us

The problem is crying Godwins Law is becoming as common as the law itself. Its become one of those cliches people throw about as if theyve somehow come up with a witty response when all they’ve done is repeat something this funny guy on another forum said.

Sometimes a reference to a previous historical event is actually relevant. Just replying “Godwins Law” doesnt make it less so.

Gee, i’m guessing someone is having a bad day?
1) I thought laws (even if fake/comical) were meant to be used/referenced as needed – not a once only deal
2) Not *all* people on Earth may have heard of it, so a wiki link isn’t the end of the world, or redundant – yet.

Certainly not worth your response! Maybe the next thing that will be more common than the law itself will be people complaining about others ‘crying’ it! Hahahaha! You trendsetters…..

Facebook introduced me to ‘Live Evil’ and ‘Box Gap’.Gotta be happy about that 🙂

Doing the entire oh poor me im too pretentious/hipster to use one of the most popular and world changing things ever invented is just incredibly weird.

The Holocaust was world changing too, and it was pretty popular in Germany. Doesn’t make it good though.

I’ve been to Facebook. I’ve endured the privacy invasion and I’ve escaped. Even signing up under a very loose pseudonym of my own name, avoiding putting personal details such as phone numbers, and restricting the hell out of everything I possibly could, some how I still received contact from half a dozen people I really hoped to not have anything to do with again.
Even now with my account under “suspension” (apparently you can’t delete it completely, cause who in their right mind would want to permanently leave the wonder of Facebook????) my info still seems to be there. It’s an evil evil thing that should be avoided at all costs.

lol @ godwinning Facebook.

Stop being paranoid and EMBRACE!!!

I’d be interested, but I don’t do facebook. Is there a group for people who aren’t self obsessed?

Always weird when people will miss out on stuff they may enjoy becuase for some reason are scarwd of facebook.

If you say ’embrace technology, don’t fear it’ again I’m going to emerge from your device to spank you.

I can’t help but think Facebook is very sad, in many ways. When you watch a group of people not speaking to each other, but updating their status, for example. How does that enrich their lives?

Embrace techknowledgy EMBRACE IT!!!!!

But yeah, i guess the both of you miss the point. You do not need to use it to makie pointless wall posts and status uppdates 10 times a day like i do, but it is incredibly useful tool to organise and track social events or hell, even run storm chaser groups! can share photos easily with said storm chasers etc etc.

Hand or hairbrush?

Nice bit of self-congratulation for not becoming one of the FB-sheeple, bit ironic, when you actually think about it, innit?

Oh really? I tried facebook, I disliked it, I no longer wish to be involved with it.

I’m not “scarwd of facebook”, or have I “missed the point of it,” I just do not find it a useful tool or a constructive use of time.

So, back to the subject, is there a way of being involved in this, one which does not require a facebook log in?

I can never understand how people completely miss the point of Facebook, but in fact there’s been a very active group of storm chasers and photographers going for years, and some of them reside in and around Canberra, and if there’s a storm on they meet up with chasers from the Nowra/Wollongong/Sydney/Wagga areas and chase together, or keep in touch by phone or radio as they chase and film/photograph.
