Dougal has sent this note in to us which will be of interest to some of you:

Capital Queers announces “Festival of FUN-draising”

The Capital Queers are excited to announce that this year in aid of raising funds for our Mardi-Gras Parade float entry for 2012 we will be holding an entire festival of events! The first fabulous event titled ‘Fandangle’ will be an evening of cocktails, tapas, live music and burlesque and will include the launch and announcement of the theme for our float in the parade, by The Hon Andrew Barr! Watch your local cafe windows for our promotional posters and detail of the event.

Fandangle will be followed up by three more events including the “Q&A Queer and Awesome Trivia Spectacular”, the “Drag out ya Sausage Family Fun and Picnic Day” and the “Keep on Marching” – uniform themed dance celebration. All will be held spaced out in the lead up to Mardi-Gras.

Also look out for our stand at Spring Out Fair Day where you’ll be able to find out more about all our upcoming events and also be able to signup to participate in the 2012 Mardi-Gras parade as part of our fabulous float!

Deref – thanks for the support mate, I might see if we can get an open donations line running in the next few weeks.

Great – let us know here if you do.

It really sounds like fun. I hope to get involved, at least in the trivia night.

I have only ever been to one mardi gras and it was just spectacular.

Dracon 388, I hope it is a huge success. Please post some photos of the float.

LOL!! Indeed

The new federal government intersex policy for passport holders would be a cool theme!

But how to translate government policy into a float? Or a dance routine? I guess this is one of those diabolical policy dilemmas the govt often talks about. We need a summit on this asap.

Let’s just hope it’s not held the same weekend as Sumernats.

Deref – thanks for the support mate, I might see if we can get an open donations line running in the next few weeks.

dungfungus – we can’t get any government funding sadly, its all from the communities pockets, but if the turnout is good we’re set to have a half decent float this year which will be a nice change for a canberra group.

classified – thats kinda the point, but hilariously this fundraising night is pretty straight, gorgeous women burlesque dancing for you, whats not to love?

poetix – Drag queens cooking your meat, whats not to love? 😉 😉

johnboy – thanks for the post!

We’re on facebook if anyone wants us “Capital Queers”

The whole thing seems kinda gay.

😀

I’ll donate a couple bucks. We should support Canberra’s entry.

So you’re behind this all the way?

😀 In a straight way, definitely.

I’m betting that the theme is family rights. Lots of Penny Wongs on the float. Anyone care for a wager?

Perhaps my sense of humour is compromised, but the title of the ‘Drag out ya Sausage Family Fun and Picnic Day’ (not the idea of the event, just the name) strikes me as a little strange. People who drag out their sausages near my family will be told to fork off.

This would have to be some sort of “special event” for Canberra, no?
So, is Andrew Barr going to dip into his bottomless special events fund to help it along?

Nope.

It’s very VERY suppressed you see!

Oh, and Brindabella, no need to book return tickets!

Why don’t they just do what they did the previous year? Oh, that’s what all the Mardi Gras participants already do year after year. Yawn.

The whole thing seems kinda gay.

I assumed he wanted to get out of Canberra to ensure he’s in Oxford St wearing pleather that night.
