Territory And Municipal Services are spruiking the chance to go on a tour of their bus wash facility.

“ACTION bus wash tours are an educational session on bus use and safety which aims to be fun and informative for young children,” Mr Roncon said.

“During the tour children will be provided with an introduction on how to catch and use a bus while playing games such as ‘Spotto!’ – or spot the object, throughout the tour.

“A $200,000 water recycling bus wash was installed at Tuggeranong bus depot in July 2011. This new bus wash uses 85 percent recycled water per wash. A new water recycling bus wash is planned to be installed at Belconnen depot later this year.”

Mr Roncon said the tour takes groups on a small trip around Canberra, through a bus depot and through one of ACTION’s bus washes where the bus is cleaned.

“Bus wash tours are free and operate on request available to childcare and preschool groups in the ACT. A minimum of 12 children is required to book a tour.

“To request a bus wash tour, write to ACTION Customer Service using the customer contact form and provide:

    • Your preschool or childcare group name
    • A contact name and number
    • Date you want to take the tour
    • The number of children and adults to accompany children.”

My sons preschool did it a few months ago – he talked about if for weeks!

Except for when the bus wash doesn’t work and all the kids get to see is a heap of depreciating assets.

So the Commodore/Beemer/whatever in the driveway at home is not depreciating? I think you will find very few assets of the motorised type that are not depreciating. If you have Bugatti Type 32 Atalantique in the shed, it is probably holding its value, whereas everything else you see on the roads is just going down in value every minute.

What do you expect buses to do? Soar in their asset value due to their rarity?

What an asine comment.

My kids do that each year at daycare, it’s awesome fun

Oh yay! Just a heads up though that after your little precious attends, you will be subjected to “SPOTTO!” yelled at top volume every time a bus is seen.

It’s quite fun. I went as an extra helper once, sat way down the back of a bendy bus while we went from Rivett to Tuggeranong via pretty much half the roundabouts in Canberra (more than once around some of them).

I would like to know how many of the kids who have been on a bus wash trip then manage to get to the end of their primary schooling without ever getting on an ACTION bus any other time. Most I suspect.

My daughter used to go every year with her daycare and it was a definite highlight.

Yep. Erg3tte takes the lil tykes from her childcare centre every year. Always goes over well, I hear.

Plus, we can indoctri… ahem, educate the kids on the benefits of using public transport! If they all do it then we won’t have to!

My niece did this a couple of years ago with her preschool. Apparently had a fantastic time.

I was going to post a sarcastic “WOW!”, but now having read more closely, it actually looks kind of nice for the kiddies.
