VDL training

Varsity Derby League, a Canberra flat-track roller derby league, is looking for “fresh meat” this month. And…we now train men to be players, not just refs!

So if you’re a guy and you want to have a whack at smashing dudes on the track, we’ll train you up to be a derby superstar! Our next fresh meat intake for both women and men (age 18+) is on 12 May at 2:45 pm at the Woden Southern Cross Basketball Stadium. No skating experience necessary, we’ll teach you all you need to know. There are two other come-and-try freshie seshies on the following Tuesday 14 May from 7:15 pm and Sunday 19 May at 2:45 pm.

If you’re interested in attending, please email us at varsityderbyleague@gmail.com for info or find us on Facebook. If you don’t have gear we’ll even see if we can source some for you to borrow (though we’ve had LOTS of interest so please do bring any gear you have). Of course you will definitely need to bring your own mouthguard. No excuse now lads and ladies. Let’s get smashy!

Basically a try before you buy type thing. Give it a go and if you arent hooked then no obligations to join the league or buy a full kit. VDL caters for all skate levels too. You dont have to undergo a test to be accepted as fresh meat as everyone is welcome so long as you are over 18.

How often do you go on the hunt for fresh meat? IE if I wanted to give it a go, but in 6 or 12 months time?

There are generally 3 intakes a year. If you send an email to varsityderbyleague@gmail.com you will be kept upto date with any future intakes. Also becoming a fan of the facebook page will keep you well informed. But this certainly wont be your only opportunity to give it a go.

Thank you!

I’m waiting for a team called the Wobbling Wimps.
