You can’t take on more children if there are no staff to care for them. Increased staff to children ration and higher qualifications required all make a very difficult environment for childcare centres to manage. Happily we are not too far away from losing a few childcare costs as well – yippee.

Childcare exposes kids to a greater variety of activities and higher degree of socialisation than you could reasonably expect to do yourself. If you’re circle of friends don’t have kids or you don’t know your neighbours well enough to rock up on their door step and ask for a play date then it would be very difficult.

I’m thinking refugee camps for babies and toddlers made out of blue tarpaulins. Ditches instead of tiny toilets. And a number system to use the slide and sandpit.

Well we are actually looking forward to the end of this year when we will gratefully relinquish our boys day care slot. At $1800 per month the cost is crippling, that will be $1800/month going off our mortgage instead.

We’re on a waiting list – have been since early pregnancy, bub is now 7 months. Told this morning possibly Feb!

I’d encourage people who have found a place to remove their names from waiting lists they no longer need to be on.
