Wanted Large Wooden Crates

Hi all

I’m looking for some large wooden crates used for shipping items like car engines, furniture, industrial heating units etc. The kind that are square/rectangle in shape and made from pine/MDF/hard wood etc.

Any idea on where I might source these from? I’m not looking for them new, used is fine. I’m hoping that there are some businesses around that receive their goods in them and then recycle them and wouldn’t mind if I took a few.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I’m looking for the crates to turn into a Chicken house as the one we have is in desperate need of replacement. So they dont need to be huge at all I just want the general structure so I can then modify as needed.

Cheers

Second hand coffins, used once, from your local undertaker, may be the way to go.
Ask if they are into re-cycling.
I doubt if they get burnt during cremation.

I work in the lift game and our components are shipped in crates of various sizes and shapes. What is your end use for the crates? It might help me decide if ours are any good.

There were a whole bunch of really good ones in the timber section at the mitchell transfer station yesterday afternoon. Rectangular plywood ones with metal reinforced edges. They might be chipped up by now but you never know. Not sure what the policy is on getting things out of there. Might have to ask Tiny’s big green shed to go grab a couple for you and give them a few bucks as I think Tiny’s has exclusive salvage rights.

Spare parts department of new car dealerships.

funny you should mention that. I went looking for a crate recently, as a starting point for a rabbit hutch. Mission accomplished in Mitchell, at the Amber tile shop. So, I’d suggest driving around the industrial areas and go and ask when you spot something. I get the impression they are happy to give them away.

Bugger Rangi! Please do keep me in mind for future crates!

KB1971 I’m after crates not pallets, thanks

Crates or pallets?

When I was in the trade only Gem engines came in crates/stands & they were steel. Everything else came strapped to pallets.

There was an ad on Allclassifieds in the freebies section giving away pallets in Fyshwick.

Bugger….I had a heap of them at home, that I collected from work, I used some, gave some away, then as part of a recent clean up chucked the last 5 on the bonfire, i will keep and eye out for some more.
