acma van

Owen has chanced upon this scene and sent it in with this note:

This van was found in the Jamieson Pool car park.

It had ACMA ( http://www.acma.gov.au/ ) markings and said they were measuring the TV field strength from Black Mountain. Unfortunately, the antenna was pointed at Belconnen. Maybe a ACMA compliance vehicle or police surveillance operation.

Brand new by the looks of it and that pump up antenna doesn’t come cheap.

OK, so it’s not new and yes, it is just used to test field strengths for television broadcasts (in the lead up to the analog switch off). They are probably just giving it a shakedown before going on a road trip. The monitoring vehicles they have in Canberra look a little different, but are still marked as belonging to ACMA.

Happy to hear more creative and exciting theories though!

Looks better than much of the public art around town.

Does it rotate in the wind?

I believe it is the latest mobile Indian Myna killer; you know, they roost on it at night and then get gassed.

The ACMA offices are based in Belconnen, so I suspect that would have something to do with it.

I suspect that they are trying to find some alleged Greens ‘policy’ that is rumoured to support ALL the ACT general public.

Good luck with that!

Shhhh! They are tracking reptoid transmissions, you’ll blow their cover!

Or, since the ACMA central office is about 800m away in Benjamin Offices, it might be they were just finding a nice quiet spot to test out there new toys.
