Water usage surging

The ABC reports that crisis and restriction fatigue has set in amongst Canberrans (as was inevitable) and water usage is rising again despite restrictions.

Why let your garden shrivel when your neighbour is watering their concrete without consequence and the price of the stuff is just so low?

If we planned for our water needs properly it wouldn’t matter whether we watered our gardens or not. Australia is a dry place that sometimes get rain. When it rains we need to catch and store LOTS of the water. Build more dams! Build more water tanks!

I saw stats somewhere that indicated that domestic use of water outdoors accounted for 2% of daily use.
Wot happens when we get an odds and evens system is that everyone waters their green things every 2nd day instead of once or twice a week.
I did hose down some piles of dirt today, (redoing the yard) anyone who has a problem with that should consider the extra water that would have been required for 3 neighbours to each redo 2-3 loads of laundry as it would have been covered in lovely grey clay.

true AD. As my father is fond of saying, there is no less water. its just not where we would like it.

Same here Vic. I will double the sprinkler time too.

Hmmm that reminds me. Better put me sprinkers on.

I used to have a lawn…..but prefer it dry and brown – needs less mowing.

don’t have a lawn.. so I don’t water. which I think means that I can get away with 2 showers a day minimum. it all gets recycled in the end anyway!!

I water my lemon tree with, ah, recycled water.

Last time I bust a gut complying with restrictions and cutting down on watering the garden, a great fire nearly burnt us to a crisp, helped along through the suburb by everyone else’s diligently unwatered, tinderdry gardens. Won’t fall for that again. I believe anyone living on the outer urban edge should have an exemption so that they can keep the gardens green and damp thereby providing a buffer should a next big fire come along.

i water the lawn with an elaborate system of pipes and hoses originating from my washing machine.

That’s true Seepi – I was out watering some plants the other day and I suddenly thought “what stage restrictions are we on now?”.

Restrictions? I give the garden a good soak once a week (less if there’s ever decent rain).

Since the “restrictions” most neighbours religiously water unnecessarily every second day.

Lower the minimum usage amount and have a nominal fee for it. Then charge like wounded bulls for excess use.

They seem to change the restrictions so often who can remember what they are right now.

I am waiting for the smelly unwashed folks of Yass and Goulbourn to lauch a raid on the Canberra water supply.

Okay, own up: who’s been flushing their toilet everytime they use it?

If it’s yellow, let it mello – if it’s brown, flush it down!

Water restrictions are communist. But then Nohope would be into that sort of thing.

ACTEW didn’t want their profits to dry up
