Watson rubbish tip

I just logged a Fix my Street job relating to the rubbish piling up on the footpath in Harvey Street adjacent to the flats, at the back of the Watson shops.

The pile is growing exponentially and it looks feral. And it pees me off to no end that it’s clearly more than one person dumping their rubbish there.

“Because if someone else does it, I have the right to do it too!”

And to top it off, they never seem to take the bins in, so people are dumping rubbish right next to about 10 empty bins!

The mind boggles.

I’ll take a photo this afternoon, but you can actually see some rubbish there in Google maps streetview!

So it’s not a one-off occurence, only now it’s much worse than when the Google photo was taken.

And they wonder why public housing tenants get a bad name?

If govco wants to charge excessively for dumping rubbish, people just find other ways to get rid of their crap.

In this street there are a couple of strollers in the pile, but most of it could fit into a normal rubbish bin!

And pensioners can get their large rubbish picked up now http://www.tams.act.gov.au/live/Recycling_and_Waste/options/bulky_waste_collection_service. For those who do have more money, stinginess is absolutely no excuse for being a filthy pig.

Actually, I will admit, my intentions are a little 2-way, while i think having a compiled list of these sites would be a great move to help identifying problem issues, and getting some action, i also have a slight personal gain from this list.

I collect old lawnmowers as a hobby, and dump sites are not a bad way to get them! (However, i would rather see no dumping, but this list means i can get free mowers in the process of getting to a cleaner city)

That was supposed to be in response to #11, Innovation

The worst thing is that there are a number of skips at the back of the shops on Harvey street which could be used instead of dumping it 10 metres away on the footpath.

Really, dumping rubbish could be free, and there would still be people who couldn’t be arsed to drive to the tip. Not if there’s a Salvo’s bin nearby, where they can ‘donate’ their crap.

There seems to be a couple of these dump sites around, I’m going to compile a list, could people tell me the streets to add to this.

I have Harvey in watson, i also know of this out at ginnederra falls near macgregor.

What other streets in canberra need a look at?

Anything on the South side? Perhaps we should start a Facebook page listing all of the sites and people could like it if they find a site that’s easy and convenient to get rid of rubbish for free…..

Don’t you have to wait until they finish the GDE first…….?

Lyneham and O’Connor wetland an irrigation second…

Logged two things via Fix My Street, one was fixed pretty quickly and the other took a few months, but eventually somthing was done. The one that was fixed quicly was framed as a safety issue. “Think of the children” and all that.

When you actually put your name to it, you’ll get a job number that you can follow up on.

same thing out the front of our place in Phillip. People are just to lazy to take their crap with them. Washing Machines, Bedding, Hot Water Systems ?? etc etc

I have logged 2 jobs previously with Fix My Street and the garbage has been removed within the week! I was pleasantly surprised.

I got a reply too, for both jobs, but that’s as far as it went.

Don’t hold your breath – I logged two simple jobs in March… still waiting.

And I have logged a job through them before and the issue was resolved very quickly. Have you called them to ask why it hasn’t been actioned?

I did get a reply (from an actual person) within 1 hour of logging the job.

If no action has been taken within 2 weeks, I will follow it up.
