G’day all

We are looking for a vacant retail space in a suburban shopping centre, Ideally in the Inner South/Woden/ Weston Creek area. does anybody know of any empty shops? We would prefer to be in a small suburban shops as this would suit our business better. We have been in North Lyneham for nearly 3 years and have decided that we really need an outlet on the southside. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i’m glad this won’t mean the nth lyneham outlet is compromised… good luck in the second digs folks!

missme,

We have secured the old blockbuster site at Curtin thanks for the heads up.We will be opening our new shop there in late January 2011. Thanks everybody for all the other suggestions, riotact is a great resource for small businesses

> For the record, people have more money to spend in the north compared to the south (I mean, have you seen Calwell?!?) – Don’t setup down here. Wrong side of the lake. Bogans only eat McDonald and KFC.

I’m pretty sure the inner south is the most affluent area of Canberra (with the poorest being West Belco). So….no.

3jane, We were going to open at torrens, but the shop spaces are all very small. Also I think they are all mostly filled now.

There used to be an organic delivery service at Torrens shops but that shop is now empty.

ahh, but the patronage, woody, the patronage… 😉 [speaking as someone who has never given mcdonald’s a cent of my money]

Green Square in Kingston has a vacant video shop. There would be access from the back alley

Go to Curtin shops. It’s a thriving little shopping centre and very easy to get to from anywhere really…

Thanks everyone, we have tried leasing agents and looked at a lot of the above mentioned. The place Weston near Kingsley’s has no back dock facilities, I’m not really sure we could handle being in the Hyper dome. We do like being in small local shops because we get a satisfaction out of providing people with quality fresh produce. When we opened in North Lyneham we had an old lady come in and start crying because she couldn’t believe that she could get fresh produce at her local.

We were going to have a look at Curtin it seems to be a pretty good place, hopefully we can make something work.

again thanks

Vacant video shop at Southlands ‘cept you’d be next to the Asian grocer and not far from Jabal’s in terms of competition.

The Old Video2000 store in Weston (next to Kingsley’s) has been vacant for over 6 months. Good location if you can stand the smell of an oily chook.

For the record, people have more money to spend in the north compared to the south (I mean, have you seen Calwell?!?) – Don’t setup down here. Wrong side of the lake. Bogans only eat McDonald and KFC.

Woden, Weston Creek, and the Inner South, however, would all be pretty good.

Blockbuster at the Curtin shops has closed down, that might be worth a look and a nice community there. They’re alos in the process of setting up a community bank (bendigo) since the CBA vaccated

Hyperdome – don’t know if there is a big demand for organic – maybe offering a delivery service to southside might work

45 empty shops in the HYPE-erdome – cheap rent too if you don’t mind some thuggie fights outside your store

Hmmmm, thinking cap on, pluggged in, calibrated. Energy swirling through neurones, synapses performing faultlessly, calculating, reasoning, sorting… waiting for a result… ah yes here it is:

Leasing Agents, for all their faults, do maintain databases of empty properties and have intimate knowledge of where a business is likely to succeed. They would be, in my humble but unfortunately non-organic opinion, the best place to find suitable empty commercial premises.

A delivery service would be cheaper and more environmentally friendly.

Oh. I just saw your website after I posted :/

Well.. There aren’t any other solely certified organic fruit&vege shops at the markets 🙂 but I’m guessing you would have already considered the markets as an option and they already have four different fruit & vege retailers there.

Mind you, the organic produce shop that was there 12months ago was doing really well, then changed hands (cos the owner wanted to retire) and is now a health foods (vitamins) shop so maybe there is room?

Fyshwick Markets are looking for more tenants in their newest, redeveloped section I think there will be 100 and 200 square metre blocks available for fit out from mid-late October.

Depending on the type of business you have I’d recommend it cos the markets get loads of regular customers Thursday-Sunday and you wouldn’t suffer the slow death over small businesses seem to in small, quiet local shops. I work at Plonk and we were open 6 days a week in Manuka (tiny shop down a dead end back alley with amazingly high rent) and were just about to go under when we made the move to the markets – now we’re open only 4 days and doing so much better.

Farrer shops has lots of empty newly-refurbished shops.
