Simon Corbell has announced the release of the ACT Sustainable Energy Policy 2011-2020:

The Sustainable Energy Policy sets out four key outcomes, backed by 27 detailed measures. The 4 key outcomes
are;

    — Outcome One: Reliable and Affordable Energy;
    — Outcome Two: Smarter Use of Energy;
    — Outcome Three: Cleaner Energy; and,
    — Outcome Four: Growth in the Clean Economy.

Some of the measures proposed to back up these outcomes include:

    — Measure 6: Further investigation of the roll–out of smart meter technology to assist households to better manage their energy use;

    — Measure 9: developing an energy savings initiative to support households, particularly low income earners, to save energy and reduce energy costs and usage;

    — Measure 14: review of the Green vehicles duty scheme and mechanism to further encourage the use of less energy intensive vehicles; and,

    — Measure 22; Assessing the feasibility of distributed energy production in large developments at the Canberra Hospital and the Braddon – Reid ACT Housing redevelopment projects.

Great! More eco-babble and tokenism which contradicts just about all other government policies/actual action, eg bulldozing forest/woodland to make way for yet more car-dependent suburbs, minimal investment in public transport, inadequate roads which due to the stop-start traffic and long travel times lead to many times greater emissions/petrol consumption than would be the case if traffic flowed smoothly

Pollyanna @ #15.

Well chronicled. That’s a damning list of junkets. Can any of the travellers point to one (!) benefit that has been realised by the ACT voters?

But any viable alternate government is lost in the mist.

Bugger.

Ah Simon,

What did your delegation’s trip around the world to look at sustainable housing do for the environmant?

What did Mrs Stanhope’s business class trips to China (multiple), USA (multiple), Canada, Japan, China (multiple), Malaysia, Vietnam, UAE and Great Britian do for the environment (List may be inaccurate, Stanhope refused to supply reports on OS trips to me).

See paragraph above, what was Stanhope trying to sell? We have no mining industry, primary industry or seconday industry.

Why is Canberra the dirtiest city in the dirtiest country per capita on earth?

What are the greens doing? supporting the most hedonistic government on the planet.

What did health minister Gallagher’s delegation to Scandinavia achieve for Canberra waiting lists.

What a joke Simon, carbon neutral by 2060, is that when you and the green MLA’s will hand in your cars and catch Action Busses to work?

What a hedonistic bunch of snouts, the worst in the world. Why not treat Canberra citizens like yourselves, abundant free parking in Civic, greens included, like you have next to a Action interchange.

Finally, nuclea…. oh wait, more crap that won’t make a lick of difference.

+1.

Want a nuclear reactor in Canberra, eh? Just to focus on one of the many problems with this – do you know how much those suckers cost? Haven’t I seen you guys in other threads complaining about the cost of things (forgive me if that wasn’t you).

As for the energy policy. Gee, I’d like to see a policy that actually has concrete actions in it, and then to see the Government actually do them. We keep getting nothin’.

Actually my +1 wasn’t suggesting that we need nuclear power in Canberra. It was support for the idea that nuclear power is a sensible option, generally speaking.

I hope ‘developing an energy savings initiative to support households, particularly low income earners, to save energy and reduce energy costs and usage’ includes stopping the building of houses so close to one another that there is no room for cheap and VERY energy efficient, in fact, energy passive, things like shade trees and a vegie patch.

*sigh* sometimes I get the feeling the ACT Govt forgets the simple things and goes for as much complexity as possible, so it looks as if it is actually DOING something . . .

But can a shade tree really compete with having an alfresco close enough to reach into your neighbour’s kitchen when you’re cooking on your barbie under the outdoor rangehood in the coolness generated by your outdoor ceiling fan while watching your outdoor big screen tv and you find your second fridge has run out of necessary condiments or beverages.

The Sustainable Energy Policy is Just a rebadged “No Waste By 2010” Policy.Wich was an aspirational target ONLY!

It might help if they make sure their own people are aware of their aspirations. I once sought some recycling advice via Canberra Connect (and I double checked that I had been put through to the correct area) but when I mentioned the NoWaste program (I had the stickers and everything!) I was told it must be a federal program because it definitely wasn’t anything to do with the ACT.

more environmental tokenism? (grid connected domestic solar energy generation anyone?)

“Sustainable”. Must be the new buzzword The Green fleas have handed the Labor dogs.

No Waste 2010

start a scholarship or competition for people of ages to come up with and invent energy efficient products. You never know what may come about as a result:

The first ones fake and the second one doesn’t exist.

hmm you’re right. Maybe I shouldn’t be surprised that dailymail.co.uk was prone to hoax news

second link shows a work in progress. inventions don’t get implemented overnight but shows good promise
