Following on from the excitement of Quangers’ Mark Webber getting pole position in the German Grand Prix, the BBC informs us that the local lad has gone and won the thing!

Webber is one of the most popular drivers in F1 and he has certainly paid his dues to get to where he is.

There are other drivers who don’t like his outspokenness or feel some of his Aussie aggression sometimes goes a little bit too far but they, too, would say he fully deserves his place among Formula 1’s winners.

UPDATE: Thanks to Holden Caulfield for the link, here’s some video of Webber’s excited reaction to his win:

Good on Webber, an awesome achievement.

F1 footage on YouTube is usually closed down pretty quickly. I’m surprised that clip lasted so long.

I think they censored it for the Ten broadcast, even though it went to air about 1.10am (conclusion).

Good to hear he’s still an Aussie at heart. Did that go to air?!?! :O

It did on OneHD’s live coverage. Not sure if Ten edited it on the later version.

I was very surprised to hear the uncensored version on News Radio this morning, though!

Must be something about the German GP. Two years ago when Webber was chasing Lewis Hamilton and looking set for at least second, and a possible win, he got punted off by Sebastien Vettel under safety car conditions. When he was interviewed in the pits a bit later he let out the f-bomb on live TV then as well.

From memory he said something like “It’s kids isn’t it (referring to Vettel who was in his first year of F1). They come in here with no experience and just f–k it up.”

Ironic, then, that young Vettel is Webber’s teammate and now has three F1 wins to his name. 😛

Good to hear he’s still an Aussie at heart. Did that go to air?!?! :O

AFL, F1 and pro cycling have all gone a bit metrosexual this week.

Abridged audio in MP3 format is currently floating here:

Imagine what he’ll do if he wins the entire thing.

Brilliant stuff, that is the happiest-sounding person I have heard in a long time.

He’s certainly put in the yards… anyone hear the audio of him screaming his head off afer the win this morning on the radio? He was a happy man.

The Monkey has been ripped off his back and kicked in its baboon red arse. I have been waiting for this a long time. Good on ya Mark!

A long time coming, but great news. 🙂 Congrats!

Congrats to Mark, his partner Ann and all his family, they have all worked bloody hard for so many years for this great result. And it was so good to see his first pole and win LIVE on OneHD – in the first race they broadcast in this area!

Most excellent, awesome, can’t wait to see how he goes from here now.

Cooooooool!!!!

Awesome … to have a drive-through penalty to boot, there wouldn’t have been many drivers able to pull that off!

IIRC Michael Schumacher was the last driver to win after a drive through penalty.

Awesome, especially since his injuries last year and to have a drive-through penalty to boot, there wouldn’t have been many drivers able to pull that off!

Mark’s dodgy leg:

He’s third at the moment – and the Brawns are faltering…..

Where is he coming in the Championship after this?

I’m pitching myself. What a great race, that drive thru was heart wrenching. But well done Mark, bring it on Brawn!

Does this signal the end of the seemingly eternally popular ‘Mark Webber bashing’ from the ignorant commentariat?

Well in the Post Race Media thing, he did say something like “….there were those that doubted me hello……”

A very good drive and some very good tactics. For the first time in his career, Webber has landed a seat in a team on the up, and had an equal in Vettel as a team mate.

If BrawnF1 don’t get their act back together (or have a little bad luck), Webber could potentially be battling for the WDC in the last couple of rounds.

Thankyou Queanbeyan!

Such an awesome result!

As stated in the other thread…

“WOOOoooooooooooo!!!”

People were out in Queanbeyan last night doing street racing and burn outs.
