Webber wins again

Mark Webber’s win in Spain last week was pretty good, but his victory at the Monaco Grand Prix last night is a on a different level (as Mark’s post-race comments suggest). It’s the first time an Aussie has won in Monaco since 1959, when Sir Jack Brabham chalked up the only other win on the famous street circuit. The Monaco race is considered the most prestigious event on the F1 calendar.

Starting from pole position Webber was in total command and led from start to finish, despite a number of Safety Car interruptions. Webber now leads the 2010 World Driver’s Championship. He is on equal points with his teammate Sebastien Vettel, but sits atop the ladder because he has two race wins this year to Vettel’s one.

Clearly the Red Bull RB6 is the car to catch right now, as Webber’s two dominant weekends show. The question that can now be asked with genuine merit is, can a humble kid from Queanbeyan really win one of motor racing’s greatest prizes?

LOL – & I went to the trouble of Googling her first name, because I know it is an unusual spelling!!!

I shoulda just cut’n’pasted…

😛

Gerry-Built hang on to those (Campin/Camplin) stamps, official misprints are worth a fortune.

You’ll find the value of those stamps over time will be greatly magnified thanks to that paper sleeve and clear window.

I think I’ve already lost it, what a bummer.

I also bought the Alisa Campin and Steven Bradbury stamps from the Winter Olympics 2002(Australia’s first winter Gold!) – again – not for the monetary value, but because Alisa was (is?) cute and Bradbury, well, “did a Bradbury”… still makes me laugh just thinking about it…

Fame? Money? A Webber-fan craves not these things… 😀

If it’s true that Vettel’s car had been suffering with undetected chassis damage, expect him to fly in Turkey. With a frame that will give him the same handling capacity as Webber has been winning with, we should be on for a fantastic scrap between them.

With all the success that Red Bull have been having this year, when are we going to start seeing tv commercials which give some real meaning to ‘Red Bull gives you wings’?

Those stamps were nothing but a shameless money grab by Australia Post (though arguably this is their modus operandi). It cost the value of the stamps plus $10 for what amounted to a paper sleeve with a clear window. Pretty disappointing.

Good on Webber, I want to see his face on a 50 cent coin one day – or at least a stamp. And poor Schumacher, he was penalised for overtaking while safety car was out (I think) he can’t catch a break.

He was on a stamp set last year when he had his first win, and another stamp several years ago celebrating Australians’ in international sports. That said – another one with him would never go astray (though I might run out of wall space for the framed copies).

…I wouldn’t write Vettel off though, that kid clearly has talent and a big future.

Doesn’t he have potential though !?! He is definitely one of the best drivers out there right now. He’ll take it to Webber all year I’d reckon!

I would hate the rumours of a Webber move to Ferrari to be true – he is in the best car in the field, the most competitive car he’s ever had. Disappointing to see a harsh penalty applied to Schumacher for what boils down to be a miss-understanding of an unclear rule…

A nice, clean race for Webber – He’s found the form he needs at the most crucial point in his career!

Yeah, great stuff and I am pleased for Mark.

I wouldn’t write Vettel off though, that kid clearly has talent and a big future.

Can it get any better?

This is starting to look bad for Vettel. Another processional race in two weeks, let’s see if he can do it again.

Monaco is like that, so you could say the real racing takes place during qualifying, which he obviously ruled, so good on him, sweet driving. During the race he managed to stay in front through careful pits, but after each safety car, he kicked them and took off, deserved that win in his own right.

I’m not disagreeing with you, just adding to it.

Whoops, I can see how what I said could be interpreted to be a bit negative.

Like you said, every time the SC came in he scooted away again. Excellent drive.

Some leave Queanbeyan at high speed successfully, others fail fatally. Guess the net impact is neutral.
