Weddings Parties Anything

It was with great joy that an email on the Mick Thomas mailing list heralded a reunion tour of the great Weddings Parties Anything. Those into this brilliant band would relish memories of several wonderful Canberra Shows, Stone Eve in 95, several shows at Tilley’s etc.

Sadly it seems this reunion tour is to bypass their fans in the ACT. One can only lament on a lost opportunity to see this great band back together for what one can only assume would be one of very few chanes to do so.

The Corner Hotel is a great venue for live music.

move to melbourne guys. I’m seeing them twice at the corner hotel richmond and three times at the port fairy folk festival!!!

they were fantastic. first saw them support stevie ray vaughan (had to get that in!) and thought they were a cross between redgumand the clash. went to see them at ultimo a few months later and then saw them another three or four times, great sets every time (though i was much more into srv and the like so weren’t exactly right up my alley – that i saw them as much i did speaks volumes and i’d love to get another chance. damn you. damn you to hell, canberra-non-schedulers!!

oh and Monty…

Thumper has a great taste in music and I have talked about it with him before, he just missed out on WPA that’s all.

Hey Thumper…

One song?? Nooo. More like one “radio friendly” song. But many great songs that the radio would never play becasue they are about Henry Lawson, itinerant workers, the depression or any one of a 100 different Australian everyday situations.

You have to remember that they started in about 87 and the radio didnt pick them up until 92 (and remember the crap radio was playing back then until the “grunge” thing hit in 91/92).

If you dismiss them just because of Father’s Day or Monday’s Experts then you are missing a great back catalogue.

They also did a kick ass cover of Wide Open Road.

Thier farewell shows at Tilly’s still sends shudders… a very good Aussie band that had more than one good song. They actually had 7 albums Thumper… god knows what crap youlsiten too… probably Mental As Anything who are truly over rated!!!

WPA at the Bar on the Hill, Newcastle Uni were one of my top 5 gigs of all time. Just enourmous fun. I’d be keen to rock up if they changed their minds.

Yes GF, old enough to appreciate the Weddos but not that old mate. Thumper how can they be overrated, they only ever had one song played on mainstream radio, if anything they were grossly under rated as a band.

I think Mike’s point is well made, we seem to miss a lot of these opprotunities in the ‘Berra.
