Last weekend I was a human brochure, actually I’ve been one for a little while now but last weekend was our VIP weekend where we shipped in two out of towners and showed them the finer sides of Canberra. If you want to know more about the Human Brochure weekend check out Alexandra’s article!

My guests were staying in the very beautiful Pepper’s Gallery Hotel (not too shabby!) and were given breakfast in Bicicletta – what a great time to do a review!

I’ve been to Bicicletta for lunch before and was happy to put breakfast to the test.

Being an italian restaurant and also part of a hotel they had a buffet with some amazing items on offer. Cereal, toast, salmon, cheese, deli meats, banana bread, fruit and roast vegetables. Such an eclectic mix for a breakfast buffet that I’ve ever seen!

They also had a small breakfast menu if you wanted a hot breakfast instead of the buffet. While the buffet did look amazing I had a hankering for bacon and eggs, which is what I ordered, with mushrooms and prosciutto as well washed down with a big mug of flat white!

Everything came out extremely timely, coffee first, meal second. To look at it was a very generous serving and I didn’t finish all of it. The one huge let down was the bacon. On the menu it was called ‘crispy bacon’ on the plate it was ‘just cooked enough to safely eat but still 10 minutes from crispy’ bacon.

To be honest this let down the whole meal for me.

The coffee was good, made to a decent temperature with a decent amount of strength. Sadly I’m a two coffee person and no more wait staff came by our table for me to order a second coffee at the end of the meal.

Overall the location is great, menu is decent however those two things really let down the whole experience.

Bicicletta is an entirely weird and horrible venue for breakfast, sorry. It’s too dark. You don’t necessarily want to be in bright sunlight for breakfast, but you don’t want to be in a dim bar atmosphere and surrounded by the smell of last night’s red wine.

It looks like a great European Scandinavian breakfast. Maybe you should have gone to an English Australian place instead if you wanted bacon and eggs.
