Weekend Cafe Hot Spot: Cherryripe Brasserie, Watson

Sophia Carlini 19 April 2016 1

Recently having moved house, I have found myself in random suburbs that I would otherwise not spend much time in.

Last week I found myself at ONA in Fyshwick. This week I was on my way back from Mitchell, absolutely starving and desperately racking my brain of where I could get breakfast before 9am on a Sunday morning. I saw the sign for Watson shops and decided to venture into the suburb, stumbling across the local café, Cherryripe Brasserie.

The Watson shops are very quiet at this time of day which makes it a little easier to sit in the sunshine and have some quiet time whilst enjoying coffee and breakfast.

The menu at Cherryripe is very simple, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing. You know what you’re getting – eggs are eggs and the bacon is bacon. Sometimes it’s nice to not be confused by a complicated menu where you’re too afraid to ask what Jamón (a Spanish ham, kind of like prosciutto) is.

When I don’t know what to order, I always order the big breakfast. Even though there’s no way I would eat it all, it means that I get a little bit of everything. Yes! My eyes are bigger than my stomach, but I just can’t help myself.

The Cherryripe big breakfast is $20 and is made up of: two eggs your way, bacon, herb roasted tomato, mushrooms, hash browns, chipolatas and your choice of toast.

My partner Mike ordered a bunch of sides: avocado, toast, bacon, hash browns and poached eggs. The sides range between $2 and $3.50.

The meals came out quickly, and as I had expected, they were very simple. I thought they could do with a little bit of added salt, but this is personal preference. We did however; get exactly what we ordered, so I can’t make any complaints.

Cherryripe is not the kind of café that would first pop to mind if someone asked me for a breakfast recommendation, but it is a good little clean and well-presented local café – a perfect spot to walk to on a Sunday morning if you live in the area.

Cherryripe Brasserie is located at 2 Watson Place, at the Watson shops and is open seven days a week. You can also find it on Facebook.

Oh! And they have a cake cabinet, which is definitely worth checking out.

Sophia it would be great if while you are there you could check out whether the cafes you review have a “free range eggs” policy …
