For this week’s café hot spot review I decided to head south again and try out suburban café Common Grounds found at Gowrie shops.
I’ve been to Common Grounds once before on a Sunday (around 12 months ago) and it was a very popular spot then. So much so that when we ordered breakfast we were warned there was a slightly longer than usual wait on the food.
This time round I decided to go on a Friday morning and it again it was packed, there were only 2 or 3 tables spare and lots of people popping in and out for takeaway coffees and muffins.
Being too cold to sit outside, my friend and I sat inside near the big front window to get a good view of the café and of course do some people watching.
The staff were quick to pop menus in front of us and after a few short minutes were back to take our order.
This is the first suburban café I’ve been to so far that actually had eggs benedict on the menu, my favourite meal! I couldn’t resist ordering and added on a side of mushrooms topped off with a flat white. My friend ordered scrambled eggs with bacon and toast with a cappuccino.
Everything arrived fairly quickly and my friend straight away had food envy after seeing how delicious the hollandaise sauce on my meal was. I have to admit it was one of the best, wasn’t too runny and there was the perfect amount to not overpower the eggs and ham.
My friend also noted her meal was tasty and the serving so big she couldn’t actually finish it all. Tick for serving size, tick for taste and tick for fast service.
The coffee’s were also great, a really nice strong flavor however they probably could have done with being a touch hotter, but that’s just my personal preference. They use Campos Coffee, which has a strong flavor with a slight bitter undertone.
This was also another café with a great cake cabinet; it took all my strength not to talk out of there with a sweet treat for the afternoon.
