This morning I checked out Duatti, recommended to me for their French toast and coffee. Duatti, the Korean word for two friends has a very Melbournesque feel. Located in Westfield Woden (in the corner, near Woolies), this gorgeous little café is brand new, only opening in December.

Walking up to the café, I was super impressed with the fit out … I don’t know if you remember the old Gloria Jeans that used to be there, it really wasn’t anything spesh! But now Duatti has brought a whole new look and feel with brightness and great little touches like these stools! Aren’t they just fantastic?!

I met with Lauren and Dae, first time café owners, long time hospitality workers, who were very excited by their newly introduced food menu. I asked Dae what he would recommend and he was quick to tell me that it was all good. So I ordered the Duatti breakfast for the extremely reasonable price of $15.90. Talk about value for money!

The Duatti breakfast is a huge serving of eggs (your way), home made (actually) baked beans, bacon, chorizo, sautéed mushrooms and spinach on two large slices of sourdough.

Whilst waiting for breakfast I got to talking to Dae about his cafe journey. It turns out that Dae’s been making coffee for 10 years and his partner Lauren is a qualified pastry chef who studied at the very famous Le Cordon Bleu cooking school. So it’s safe to say, Duatti has definitely been a long time dream for the pair.

Speaking of pastries, Duatti has a beautiful pastry cabinet that is currently filled with macarons, including macaron stacks and macaron cakes. Dae tells me that soon there will be all kinds of dessert tarts on offer as well as interesting macaron flavours like black sesame and green tea.

Now if you’re not in the mood to eat and you just want a macaron and a coffee, the coffee is a winner. Brought in from Melbourne, 5 Senses is new to the Canberra scene, and makes for a great cup of coffee.

I really enjoyed my breakfast experience at Duatti and the staff were amazing, which sometimes makes all the difference. I will definitely be back again when they fill that pastry cabinet of theirs.

Ah, that would be where the little French patisserie used to be – didn’t realise that it had been changed again. I must check it out as those eggs and mushrooms look awesome!
