Living close to the city, I am always looking for delicious breakfast spots; breakfast being one of my favourite meals.

A couple of months ago Loading Zone popped up as a recommended page on my Facebook. The photos drew me in straight away, and when I discovered it was run by an Italian family I immediately made plans to go.

Loading Zone is literally situated in a loading zone, hiding within Odgers Lane behind the historic Melbourne building in the city. It’s very Melbournesque to be hiding down a laneway!

Every time I have been, it has been busy, but not so busy that I have not been able to get a seat, which is just how I like it. The menu is displayed on a big blackboard and is constantly changing. Loading Zone is very good at updating their Facebook page with a daily menu – so be sure to follow them.

Unfortunately they are not open on Sundays, so you’ll need to head in this morning if you want to try their breakfast this weekend. The menu is small but there is definitely something on there for everyone (or most people). My boyfriend and I ordered the parmesan and chive stirred (scrambled) eggs with cherry tomatoes and bacon, and the corn fritters with tomato and corn salsa and a poached egg at $17 a dish.

The coffees we ordered came out straight away, shortly followed by breakfast. I really am a big fan of fast service, especially the coffee and food are really good too. A big thumbs up to Loading Zone!

Both dishes were scrumptious – I really couldn’t fault anything. Sometimes simple really is best.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the food and the fantastic service at Loading Zone. The staff are extremely hospitable and chatty and we felt very welcomed.

I had such a good breakfast experience that I ended up taking a colleague back for lunch a couple of days later. We both had the calamari and radicchio salad which was again, delicious! The only thought we both had was that the dish possibly could have benefit from a few more pieces of calamari. Before we even had the chance to comment, a staff member asked us what we thought of the dish, and actually said “Do you think there’s enough calamari?”

Personally I always think it’s better to be honest, without being rude of course! So I told him, that yes, I did think it could use a little more but that it was absolutely delicious! My feedback was well received and I think appreciated.

Having had nothing but good experiences, Loading Zone is definitely going to be a regular breakfast/lunch spot of mine.

It is open Monday to Thursday, 7am to 3:15pm; Friday 7am to 9:00pm (late night trading for tapas; and Saturday 8am to 2pm.

If you want a really mind blowing breakfast, both Saturday and Sunday head over to Pod Food in Pialligo.

Get some fresh air and sunshine as well, not almost perpetual shade and dumpsters.

My sister and I went to Loading Zone for breakfast on the weekend, and we were impressed with the food too. I had poached eggs with Italian sausage on sourdough, and it was delicious but probably not quite generous enough for $22 (you can get big breakfasts for that price!).

The blood orange juice was particularly good. Freshly squeezed. Yum!

We’ll be back.
